UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MORRIS WOOL, MIDDLEBURY, VERMONT.
HOLDER FO R BRUSHES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 528,267, dated October 30, 1 894.
Application filed June 21, 1894- Serial No. 515,302. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MORRIS WooL, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at Middlebury, in the county of Addison and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Brushes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will'enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple, cheap and effective device forholdingbrushes with or without handles, and also for holding, cloths for mopping; and it consists in the special construction of the clamping jaws whereby they are adapted to hold a brush having a flat back or one with ahandle and also cloths for mopping as will be hereinafter fully set forth and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device showing in dotted lines a brush having a flat back held between one part of the jaws and the handle of a brush held between the other part. Fig. 2 is a plan view, and Fig. 3 is a sectional view.
A and B'designate the members of the device which are connected to each other by a pivot pin a after the manner of an ordinary pair of tongs. One of the members, A, has rigidly attached thereto at one end a handle A and a spring clip a, the clip having an aperture with which the adjoining end of the other member, B, engages. The ends of the members opposite the handle are flattened to receive clamping jaws D. These clamping jaws are each provided at one end with a semi-circular portion at havinga spur d, and at the other end with an outwardly bulged portion 01 the edges of which are turned in and serrated as shown. Below the outwardly bulged portion each jaw is extended outwardly and downwardly to provide parts between which the back of a flat brush can be clamped.
It will be noted that the outwardly extending portions of the clamping jaws converge toward the front end of the implement when the jaws are closed so that they will be par, allel when the jaws are slightly opened, and it will also be noted that the bulged portions of the members A and B adjacent the clamping jaws permit a spring pressure to be ex erted upon the brush when it is clamped between said clamping jaws. The lower edges of the depending portions are provided with inwardly-projecting spurs as shown.
The semi-circular portions d of the clamping jaws are adapted to be clamped upon the handle of a brush, and the serrated edges of the outwardly bulged portions serve to clamp between them a mop.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a brush or mop holder, the combination, of the members A and B pivotally connected to each other and provided with jaws said jaws having serrated clamping edges, curved portions adapted to clamp upon a round handle and outwardly and downwardly extending portions for grasping a brush having a I fiat back, substantially as shown.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
