Description

P. P. 'MERRILL'.

GLOVE.
` construction NITED STATES ATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK P. MERRILL, OFHORNELLSVILLE, NEW YORK.
GLOVE.
Si?EGIFIGA'I'IONv forming part of Letters Patent No. 527,704, dated October 16, 1894.
Application filed January 31,1894. Serial No. 498,597. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK P. MERRILL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Hornellsville, in the county of Steuben and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gloves, of Which the following is a specification.
My invention consists in features of nove hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be fully understood upon reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents the completed glove turned inside out. Figs. 2 to 7 represent the several steps which may be followed more or less closely in making each linger, and which steps are to be hereinafter more fully referred to.
A represents the glove which is provided with fingers B. The fingers are formed each of a front and back piece b 4which are sewed together as usual with interposed fourchette. To strengthen the end each finger piece b has formed upon it an integral square extension b which is disposed as follows;
The finger piece is first formed as shown in Fig. 2. Then the piece b is stitched at c on the inside as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. Then the front and back of the glove thus formed are stitched together by a stitching d which passes up the sides and around the ends, the front and back being placed face to face and the stitching at the ends passing through and through both reinforced parts. After this is done the completed finger is trimmed as shown at .fr in Fig. 6 so as to remove the corners, but to leave uncut a sufcient amount of the doubled or selvaged edge to receive the thrust or pull occasioned byinserting the ngers and to counteract the tendency which said thrust exerts to pull the threads from the goods. The relations of the parts at the point y will be understood upon reference to Fig. 7, which shows the glove finger in section inside out. The glove as thus constructed is then turned so as to bring the extensions on the inside of the fingers.
Having thus described my invention, the following is what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As a new article of manufacture a glove having a body portion formed with ngers comprising front and back strips having inturned ,square extension pieces, integral therewith and sewed to their respective strips providing double ends on the strips, the end pieces being located on the inside of the fingers, the strips with their end pieces being sewed together at their edges, and the ngers being trimmed at the corners leaving the central parts of the endsintact so as lto prevent unraveling; substantially as described.
FREDERICK P. MERRILL.
