- UNITEDISTAVTES PATENT OFFICE.
SELMA A. SGHOEFER, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
REMOVABLE CORSET-FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 380,056, dated March 27, 1888.
Application filed February 3, 1888. Serial No. 262,880. (No model.)
1'0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SELMA A. SoHoEFER, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Removable Corset-Clasp, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to the manufacture of corsets, the object of the invention being to provide for the speedy and easy removal of the steels at times when it is desired to wash the garment; and to this end theinvention consists of pockets formed at the meeting edges of the corset, which pockets are arranged to receive the steels or clasps, lacing-cords being provided by which the edges of the flaps forming the-pockets are united, all as will be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claims. V
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
. Figure 1 is a. perspective view of a corset, representing the same as it appears when constructed in accordance with the terms of my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken on line a: x of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a crosssectional view taken upon a line corresponding with the line y y of Fig. 1. Fig. 1 is an enlarged detail view of a portion of the inner face of the right-hand edge of the corset, and Fig. 5 is an enlarged detailed view of a portion of the outer face of the left-hand edge of the corset.
In the drawings, represents the main body of the corset, to which body there are stitched,
at some distance from the front edges thereof, flaps 11 and 12, the flap 11 being provided with openings 13, through which the eyes 15 of the right-hand steel 16 are passed. After the eyes 15 have been passed through the apertures 13, the edge of the flap 11 is turned over the steel 16, and this overturned portion of the flap is connected to the extending portion or flap 2 of the body 10 by a lacing-cord,
17, which is passed through eyelets or apertures formed in the flaps, as is clearly shown in the drawings. 1
In the flap 12 there are formed apertures 18, through which the headed studs 19 of the lefthand steel 20 are passed, the end of the flap q 12 being turned over the inner face of the steel 20 and connected by a lacing-cord, 17", to the extending portion or flap 3 of the body 10, the lacing-cord being passed through eyelet'holes or apertures, as in the case of the cord 17.
By constructing the corset as above described I provide for the ready removal of the steels at times when it is desired to wash the garment, or when it is desired for any purpose to remove the steels, and at the same time I provide forthe speedy readjustment of the steels.
Having thus described my invention,-Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination, with a corset-body, of
flaps 11 and 12, connected thereto at a Slight.
distance within the edges of the body, said flaps being apertured to provide for the passage of the eyes and studs of the corset-steels, and lacing cords or strips arranged to pass through apertures formed in the flaps and in the extending portions or" the co rset-body, substantially as described.
2. The combination, with a corset-body, 10, of flaps 11 and 12, connected thereto at some distance within the forward approaching edges of the body, the flap 11 being formed with apertures l3 and theflap 12 with apertures 18, a corset-steel provided with eyes which pass through the apertures of the flap 11, a second steel provided with studs which pass through the apertures of the flap '12, and lacing- cords 17 and 17, that are passed through apertures formed in the flaps 11 and 12 and through other apertures formed in the flaps 2 and 3, substantially as described.
SELMA- A. SOHOEFER.
