UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE. l
MAX SCI-IEUER `AND RALPH SOHEUER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., EXECUTORS OF SIMON SOHEUER, DECEASED.
.FRAME FoR POCKET-Books, PuRsss, R sATcHELs.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 527,512, dated October 16,1894.
Application led August 4, 1894. `Serial No. 519,433. (No model.)
`To @ZZ whom it may concern.-
' 4, 4, Fig. l.
Beit known that SIMON SCHEUER, deceased, late of New York city, New York, (and of whose estate MAX SCHEUER and RALPH SCHEUER, of New York city, aforesaid, are executors,) has invented an Improved Frame for Pocket Books, Purses, or Satchels, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to aframe for pocket books, purses and satchels which is slotted sidewise for the passage and play of a laterally extending knob secured to a spring arm which is riveted to said frame. This laterally extending knob or handle, owing to its protected position `will not be apt to become accidentally opened by a pressure upon the top of the frame.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure l is a side elevation, partly in section, of the in1- proved frame. Fig. 2, is a cross section, on line 2, 2, Fig. 1, showing the catch closed. Fig. 3 is a similar section showing the catch open. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section on line Fig. 5 is a side elevation of a modication of the frame. Fig. 6 is a cross section on line 6, 6, Fig. 5, showing the catch closed. Fig. 7 is a similar section showing the catch open, and Fig. 8 is a longitudinal section on line 8, 8, Fig. 5.
The letters a, a', represent the two jaws of a frame for pocket books, purses, satchels or similar articles.
section as usual. To the lower side of jaw a,
there is riveted at b', a longitudinally extend-` ing spring arm b. This arm has an inwardly extending lateral `hook b2, and an outwardly They are connected at their t `ends by pivots a2, and are L shaped in crossextending lateral handle or knob bs. The hook b2, is adapted to enter beneath the jaw a', when the frame is closed, and to engage a catch c, secured to said frame. The handle b3, projects sidewise through a slot or opening a3, which is formed in the side or upright portion of jaw a. To operate the catch, it is i v that the catchA is opened by raising, instead of by lowering the knob or handleba. In this modification, the hook b2, engages the upper edge of catch c, and not the lower edge, as in Figs. l to 4..
What is claimed is The combination of pivotally connected L shaped jaws ot', a, of which jaw a', has a catch and jaw a, has a notched upright side, with a spring arm secured within jaw a, and having a keeper and a handle that project laterally in opposite directions, all being so constructed that the keeper is adapted to enter jaw a',
`and engage the catch, while the handle is adapted to pass in au opposite direction` through the notched upright side of jaw a,
substantially as specified. i
