UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
I-IERMANN WILLIAM HOEFT, OF LA CROSSE, WISCONSIN.
CLASP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 526,781, dated October 2, 1894.
ApplicationfiledMay 1,1393. Serial No.472,555- (No model.)
.I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to clasps and aims to provide a fastening for adjustably connecting a tape or elastic to one end of the device by a binding action thereby obviating the use of latch bars having penetrating teeth which tear and otherwise injure the said tape or elastic.
The improvement consists of the novel features and the peculiar construction and combination of the parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and which are shown in the annexed drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a front elevation showing the application of the invention. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective View showing the parts of the clasp detached and the tape or elastic in engagement with the said parts. Fig. 3 is a side or edge view ofthe clasp, the parts being in the position shown in Fig. 1.
The clasp is composed of the plate A having hook a at its lower end and slot 6 near its upper end, the frame B, and the tape or elastic C which is adapted to pass through the slot 2, through the opening in the frame B around a side thereof and back through the slot 6, as most clearly shown in Fig. 2. The hooked end of the plate A is adapted to pass through the opening I) in the frame B and embrace the side of the said frame B around which the tape or elastic 0 pass, the said side and tape or elastic being clamped between the hook at and the opposing side of the plate A. The hook at is slightly yielding to adapt itself to the bulk of the tape and side bar of the frame B to be embraced thereby.
The supporting strap D is attached to the lower side of the frame B and the tapeor elastic O is adapted to embrace the top side of the said frame 13. To adjustably connect the tape or elastic O with the parts A and B of the clasp it is only necessary to press the parts A and B together sufficiently far to detach the frame B from the hook a, as shown in Fig. 2, when the tape or elastic can be lengthened or shortened when required. After the proper adjustment of same the frame B is engaged with the hook a. substantially in the manner shown in Figs. 1 and 3. The hook at clamps the elastic or tape 0 against the sides of the top bar of the frameB and holds the same in the required position.
Having thus described my inventi0n,what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
An improved clasp consisting of an essentially rectangular frame piece through which the tape is adapted to pass, and a plate having a slot through which the tape is also adapted to be passed and a hook adapted to bind thetape against one memberof the frame when the frame and hook are brought together, substantially as shown and described. In testimony whereof Iaffix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
