ROBE-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 519,399, dated May 8, 1 894.
Application filed August 7, 1893. Serial No. 482,567. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK E. WOODRUFF, of Calls, in the county of Marshall and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Robe-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable Others skilled 1n the art to which it pertains to makeand use It, reference being bad to the accompany- Ing drawings, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in robe holders, and it consists in the novel device hereinafter fully described for holding the foot of the robe in the front end of a buggy body, whereby the same is prevented from] withdrawing over the feet of the occupan Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1, is a perspective view of the front portlon of a buggy body having my improved robe holder applied thereto. Fig. 2, is an enlargeddetached perspective view of the same. Fig. 3, is a plan View of Fig. 2.
A designates the forward end of the buggy body to which is secured the plate B having the ears 0 projecting therefrom which form bearing for pin D, around which the hold- Ing spring is coiled. The spring coil E, the depending arms F, and the operating portlon G, are all formed of a single piece of wire. The free ends of the wire bear against plate B and form the resisting arms which lead down to the pin D, about which they are coiled toward each other, and from thence they are projected upward and twisted, as at J, and from this point they extend downward in diverging lines forming the operat- Ing handle K. The lower ends of these diverging branches are then coiled about the outer portion of pin D, just within ears 0, and from thence they are extended downward to form the arm K, having eyes L at their lower ends, which are connected by the cross strands M. These eyes as well as the cross strands are arranged between the clamping block N and the strip 0, which are secured together and to the lower ends of the arms K, by nails passing through the said eyes, as shown. The horizontal clamping strip N, is adapted to bear against the lower portion of the body end A, between which the lower end of the robe is inserted and there held in a most secure manner. The latter is thereby assigned at all times in position and it is quite impossible for it to work loose.
The device is very simple in construction and may be manufactured at a small cost and readily applied to buggies and other vehicles.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination of a bearing pin, spring wire encircling the same in separated coils, resisting arms formed of the free ends of the wire, operating arms formed by extending upward the adjacent ends of the coils, and clamping arms depending from the said operating arms having pivotal support between their ends, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination of a bearing pin, coils of spring wire thereon having their ends turned upward to form resisting arms and operating arms, clamping arms pivotally supported between their ends, and a connection between the operating and clamping arms, substantially as shown and described.
3. An improved robe holder comprising a support, a coil of spring wire secured thereto, depending arms formed by continuing the said arms, the lower ends of said arms being formed into eyes, a clamping block, and a strip arranged on opposite sides of the said eyes, and secured nails connecting the strips and block which project through the eyes, substantially as shown and described.
4.. An improved robe holder comprising a support, a plate secured thereto having bearing ears upon its opposite sides, a pin supported thereby, a robe holding clamp formed of a single piece of wire coiled about the said pin, the said coil being formed in two sections, resisting arms formed by the outer ends of the coil, operating arms formed by turning upward and then downward the adjacent ends of the coil, and depending clamp carrying arms formed by continuing the said operating arms after having been coiled about the said pin, substantially as shown and described.
