REIN-HOLDER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES V. DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grover Hill, in the county of Iaulding and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rein-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in rein holders.

One object of the invention is to provide a reinholder adapted to be applied to the dash board of any vehicle and effectually support the reins and thus prevent the same from being caught beneath the animals tail.

Another object is to provide a reinholder of this character having means whereby the ends of the reins may be fastened when not in use.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrange ment of parts as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved rein holder showing the same applied to the dash board of a vehicle; Fig. 2 is a side view of the holder.

My improved rein holder is preferably formed from a single wire rod bent midway between its ends to form a series of spring loops, said loops being arranged to form a supporting clamp 1 which is adapted to be engaged with the dash board of a vehicle whereby the holder is detachably secured thereto and supported in position to hold the reins as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing. In addition to the clamp 1 the looped or doubled portion of the wire is bent to form a rein holding clip 2 in the arms or side members of which are formed spring coils 3 whereby the resiliency or spring action of the clip is increased.

By the construction of the lower clamping end of the device as described the rein holding clip 2 performs two functions, one for receiving the reins when not in use, and the other for more securely holding said device securely but in detachable position in Specification of Letters Patent.

respect to the dash board of the vehicle upon the upper edge of the same, the lower resilient ends of the clamp thus formed being in resilient contact with said dash board.

After forming the loops constituting the clamp 1 the ends of the wire are brought to gether and twisted for a suitable distance to form the standard 1 of the holder. The ends of the wire rod at the upper end of the twisted standard are bent laterally in opposite directions and thence inwardly to form rein holding loops 5, said inwardly bent ends of the loops terminating a sufficient distance from each other to form a space wide enough to permit the reins to be readily engaged with the holding loops. The extremities of the inner ends of the upper members of the loop are bent into the form of eyes 6 which provide a finish for the terminals or ends of the wire.

By thus constructing my improved holder it will be seen that the same may be readily engaged with the dash board of a vehicle whereby the holder will be supported in proper position to receive and hold the reins at such an elevation as to prevent the same from becoming caught beneath the animals tail and it will also be seen that by means of the spring clip 2 that the ends of the reins may be readily caught and held when not in use thus preventing the reins from falling from the vehicle and getting under the feet of the animal.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as defined in the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
