Beit known that I, WILLIAM I-I. BENNETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illi-` nois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Mop-Wringers, of which the following i is a specification.
novel construction of the roller-frame, whereby it shall be materially simplified and its manufacture oheapened by enabling every part, except the spring, to be formed of flat metal (iron).
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis aview presenting the open end of a pail containing a mop-wringer of my improved oonstruction. Fig. 2 is a section taken at the line 2 on Fig. 1 and viewed in the direction of the arrow; and Fig. 3 is a section taken at the line 3 on Fig. 1 and viewed in the direction of the arro t A is a pail, and B is the roller-frame of the wringer fastened therein. The frame B comprises two rectangular brackets 1' and'r, each of which may be readily formed of a strip of flat metal bent to alford the back 5c and the arms m', m2; and armsq and p, to the upper parts of which the brackets are rigidly fastened about midway between the ends of their backs The arm q has at its upper end the horizontal section t and the downward bend t', where itbears against and is fastened to the inner side of the pail, and the lower end of the arm q is bent to form a foot t2, through which it is fastened to the bottom of the pail. The arm 1o is fastened to the bottom of the pail by a hinge o, and is connected, near its upper end, by aniron bar n, shown as a flat piece, with the adjacent inner side ofthe pail,
` to which one end of the bar is rigidly fastened,
the opposite end, which passes through a slot m in the arm, having a head m formed upon it and shown as a stop-shoulder, to hold the bar in the normally upright position toward which it is caused to tend by the spring n confined against it and surrounding the bar n. Rollers Z and 7c are journaled in thearms and x2 of the respective brackets r and r', the roller la being held permanently out of contact with its companion-roller by the stop fm, whereby a narrow space is aorded between the rollers into which to insert the mop. On each bracket-arm m2 is fastened a metal `strap il extending at one end somewhat obliquely toward the adjacent end of the periphery of a roller, whereby the strap-ends flank the space between the rollers and form a guide thereto. At the opposite ends of the rollers the space between them is bridged by a plate 71, through which a journal-pin of the stationary roller Z passes, the plate having, near its opposite end, an elongated slot h to straddle the corresponding journal-pin of the yieldingly supported roller k.

The thickness of the mop being greater than the width of the space between the rollers2 the yielding roller lc is swung back on the hinge o against the resistance of the spring n', the force of which thus compresses the roller 1t controls against the mop and, with the cooperation of the roller Z, wrings the mop 1n drawing it upward between the rollers.,
WhatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isy 1. A mop-wringer comprising, in comblnation, brackets having the tao-operating rollers journaled in them, upright arms to which the brackets are fastened, one bracket-supporting arm being adapted for rigid fastening in apailand the other arm having a hinge at its lower end for connectionwith the pail, and a bar to extend from one side of the pail and loosely engaging with the hinge-arm and having a spring confined upon it against said arm, substantially as and for the purpose set" forth.
2. A mop-wringer comprising, in combination, braoketshaving the co-operating rollers journaled in them and provided at one end of the rollers with a mop-guide and `at the op- IOO posite end thereof with a slotted connecting strap, upright arms to which the brackets are fastened, one bracket-supporting arln being adapted for rigid fastening in a pail and the other arm having a hinge at its lower end for connection with the pail, and a bar to extend from one side of the pail and loosely engaging with the hinge-arm and having a spring confined upon it against said arm, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. In combination with a pail, a mop-Wringer comprising an arm q rigidly fastened in the pail and carrying at its upper end a bracket r having journaled in it a roller Z, an arm p hinged at its lower end inside the pail and WILLIAM H. BENNETT.
