TOWEL-RACK.
@EECIFECATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 320,211, dated June 16,1885.
Application filed January 6, 1885.
Z all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOSEPH BERGSTEN, of Rockford, in the county of \Vinnebago and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Towel-Rack, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive, convenient, and efficient rack for holding towels.
The invention consists in a towel-rack made with a fixed and an adjustable roller supported parallel with each other in end brackels, springs being provided to hold the rollers toward each other to clamp the towels between them.
Cams are arranged on one roller to act 011 the other roller to separate them for placing the towels in the rack, all as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification,
in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved towel-rack with a towel held thereby. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the rack, partly in section, and with the rollers in position for holding the towels, and Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the rack with the inner or clamping roller thrown back for placing towels in the rack.
The letters A A indicate the opposite end brackets of the towelrack, which. are made alike and preferably of cast metal, and with holes through which screws or nails may be passed for fastening them to a partition, wall, or other support.
Each bracket A has a bearing, a, in which the reduced end b of the outer towel-holding roller, B, is journaled, and a cam or eccentric plate, 0, is hung on each end I) of roller B, between its end shoulders and the brackets A, said cams having finger-pieces c, for convenience in operating them.
At D is shown the inner or towel-clamping roller, which is supported by its reduced ends din slots E, formed in the brackets A. Behind the slots E, in line with and opening into them, are formed recesses F, making hearings or supports in which presserpins G Model.)
one or both of the cams O O will be turned" by pressing down on their finger-pieces c, which carries the eccentric faces of the cams against the roller D to force it back against the tension of the springs H, as in Fig. 3, when one corner or end of the towel may be passed between the rollers B D, from the top. preferably, and when the cams are turned back again, as in Figs. 1 and 2, the springs H will force the roller D outward, and the towel or towels will be held firmly betweenthe rollers.
Should one or more towels be in the rack, and it is desired to hang another towel therefrom, aeam, O, at one end of the rack only need be turned to separate the rollers at that end to allow the extra towel to be placed between the rollers without dropping those already in the rack.
To remove the towels, it only is necessary to pull them from between the rollers, which turn as the towels are drawn out, thus preventing damage to the towels, as will readily be understood.
I am aware that a towel-rack composed. of two rollers journaled in a bracket, one of the said rollers being pressed toward the other roller by a spring, is old and I therefore do not claim such invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A towel-rack comprising a fixed roller and an adjustable roller, bot-h supported in end brackets, springs tending to hold the rollers in contact, and cams hung on one of the rollers and acting when turned to separate the rollers, substantially as herein set forth.
2. The combination, in a towel-rack, of the brackets A A, roller B, journaled in bracket-bearings a, a roller, D, journaled in the bracket-slots E, presscnpins G, springs H,
ICO
and the cams C C, mounted on the roller B, substantially as herein set forth.
3. The combination in a towel-rack with the brackets A, provided each with a -s1ot, JOSEPH BERGSTEN WVitnesses:

springs H, and the cams O on the roller B, as set forth.
5 E, and a recess, F, of roller B, journa1ed in the outer ends of said brackets, the roller 1), journaled in the slots E, the pins G, the,
