CLOTHES-WRINGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 30, 1915.
Application filed October 21, 1914. Serial No. 867,749.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR E. SCHUFFEN- HAU'ER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of South Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in- Clothes-\Vringers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to clothes wringers and has for its object the provision of improved means for preventing the clothes from wrapping about the rolls thereof.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which- I Figure 1' is a front view of a wringer embodying my invention, Fig. 2, a sectlon taken on line 22 of Fig. 1, Fig. 3, a vertical'section taken through the wringer, and Fig. 4, a detail view of a supporting frame employed in the construction.
The preferred form of construction as I illustrated in the drawing comprises an ordinary wringer of any usual or desired construction and provided with the usual rolls 5. A substantially U-shaped bar 6 1s arranged above the upper roll 5 and carries a flexible strip 7 of felt or cotton webbing contacting perpendicularly with the top of the upper roll. Bar 6 is shdably mounted in guides 8 arranged at the ends thereof so as to permit of free vertical movement of said bar. By thisarrangement the flexible strip 7 is yieldingly held in contact with the top of the upper roll 'by the force of.
gravity and will effectually prevent the wrapping of clothes about sald upper roll. A substantially U-shaped supportlng frame 9 is arranged under the lower roll as indicated and is provided with drain'slots 10 in the bottom thereof. A substantially.
U -shaped bar 11 is slidably arranged in supporting frame 9 and carries a flexible 14-. in the bottom of frame 9 and pressing upwardly on bar 11, so as to hold strip 12 yieldingly in contact with the bottom of the lower r0115. By this arrangement'the strip 12 will be held in yielding contact with the lower roll 5 and effectually prevent wrappin of the clothes around this roll.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from thespirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to-secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination with a wringer having, rolls, of a gravity held flexible element arranged in contact, with and perpendicular to the uppermost portion of the upper roll; and a spring held flexible element arranged in contact with and perpendicular to the lowermost portion of the lower roll, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a wringer having rolls, of guides arranged at the sides of said wringer above the upper roll thereof;
a U-shaped bar slidable in said guides and carrying a flexible strip contacting perpennormally holding the corresponding flexible strip in contact with the lower roll, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ARTHUR E. SCHUFFENHAUER.
