ANNIE LOVETT, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
CLOTHES-WRINGER.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, ANNIE Lovnrr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Fringers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in clothes wringers, and broadly and generally speaking it comprises a relatively stationary member and a relatively movable member.
One object of my invention is the provision of a clothes wringer wherein the relatively movable member is yieldingly retained in closed position whereby to enable water to be pressed from clothes.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a clothes wringer which shall be simple, durable and efficient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure l is a sectional view of a clothes wringer constructed in accordance with my invention, the section being taken on the vertical plane indicated by the line 11 of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation of the wringer. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the wringer, and Fig. 4 is a view in end elevation of the wringer.
Referring to the drawing by reference numerals, l designates a relatively movable and 2 a relatively stationary presser member. The members are preferably rectangular in outline and may be made of wood, metal or any other material suitable for the purpose. The member 1 is secured to the member 2 by hinges 3, the leaves of which are ofiset laterally to provide horizontal members 4: and vertical members 5. The horizontal members 4 of the hinges engage the lower edges of the members 1 and 2, and
the vertical members of the hinges are secured to the members 1 and 2 by screws 6 or their equivalents. Owing to the peculiar formation of the leaves of the hinges, the member 1 is, when in closed position, dis- Specifioation of Letters Patent.

posed in spaced parallel relation to the member 2. The member 1 is yieldingly retained in closed position by contractile springs 7 each of which is carried by a pair of bracket arms 8. The bracket arms 8 are secured to the outer sides of the members 1 and 2 at points adjacent their upper and side edges. Each bracket arm is provided with an attaching flange 9, the arm extending laterally and outwardly from the flange. Each spring 7 is permanently secured at one end to one arm 8 of each pair, the other end of the spring being adjustably secured to the other arm of the pair by a bolt 10. WVinged nuts 11 are mounted upon the bolt 10 and engage the bracket arms through which said bolts pass. The clothes wringer is adapted to be secured in applied position by a pair of inverted U-shaped brackets 12 which are secured to the outer side of the member 2 and which are adapted to receive the upper edge of the side 13 of a wash tub or other receptacle.
In practice the member 1 is opened, that is to say, it is moved away from the member 2, after which the clothes are inserted be tween the members. Vhen the member 1 is released the springs 7 move it in the direction of the member 2 pressing the water from the clothes. The tension of the spring may be regulated and varied by the nuts 11.
It should be apparent from the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, that I provide a clothes wringer which is simple of construction, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is A clothes wringer comprising a relatively stationary rectangular presser member, a relatively movable rectangular presser member, hinges secured to the lower edges of the presser members, when in closed position the presser members are retained in parallel relation by the hinges, brackets secured to the relatively stationary presser member, bracket arms secured to and extending laterally from the relatively stationary presser member, contractile springs each secured at one end to one of the bracket arms, bracket arms secured to and extending laterally from the relatively stationary presser member, bolts secured to the free ends of the springs and passing freely through the bracket arms secured to the relatively stationary resser member, nuts mounted upon the bolts and engaging the bracket arms secured to the relatively stationary presser member, the
springs yieldingly retaining the presser members in closed position. 10 In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
