No. 344,745. Patented June 29, 1886;
Minesses. I Inventor G? I I7K v Haw my a Aiyer Entree STATES PATENT OFFICE. I
MELVIN N. LOVELL, OF-.ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO THE LOVELL MANUFACTURING COMPANY, (LIMITED,) OF SAME PLACE.
CLOTH ES-WRINGER.
GPECIJEICATIGN forming part of Letters Patent No. $4 1,745, dated June 29, 1886..
Application filcd ltl'archfli, 1886. Serial No. 190,119. (No mothl.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MELVIN N. LOVELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsyl- 5 Vania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Vringers, and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to clothes wringing machines; and it consists in certain improvements in the construction thereof, as will be herein fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompa nying drawings as follows:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the lower part of a clothes-wringer with my invention applied thereon, parts being broken away. Fig. 2 is alike view of afragment of a wringer with the apron O and clamp D in a different position from that shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the same parts seen in 2, Figs. 1 and 2, with the clamp D and apron 0 shown in the positions they occupy in Fig. 2 in full lines, and in the position shown in Fig. 1 in dotted lines. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of detached parts.
A marks the end pieces of the frame; B, the side'pieces; O, the apron; D, the clamps; E, the bracket on which the clamps are hung.
The present improvement relates to means for hinging the apron and the clamps.
5 It is common in clothes wringers to hinge the clamps so they can be swung around and -lie between the end pieces, and to hinge the apron so it can fold down flat against the frame when the clamps are swung in bet-ween the 0 end pieces. For such construction see Letters Patent No. 253,537, issued to me February 14, 1882.
The object of my present improvement is to provide a construction whereby, when the brackets ,to which the swinging clamps are 5 hinged are placed on the front of the frame pieces, the apron can be so hung as to fold over said clamps when they are in the position shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and lie parallel with the frame-pieces A, and when the clamps 5c are in the position shown in Fig. 1 it will lie on the top of them at an angle to the framepieces A and convey the clothes over the edge of the tub.
The construction of my device is as follows: The bracket E (seen. detached in Fig. 4) is a single piece of malleable-iron casting. It consists of a face plate, 0, a bolt, 6, ears (I d, on which the clamps are pivoted, as seen in Figs.
1, 2, and 3, and a vertical ear, 0, to which the apron is hinged. The bracket E is attached to the end pieces by the bolt 6 passing through them, and a nut is screwed onto the projecting end of the bolt. The bracket and bolt may be separate pieces, if desired, or the 6 bracket may be attached to the frame by screws. On each end of the apron O, on the under side thereof, is a hinge-strap, 0, made preferably of malleable cast-iron, adapted to connect with the vertical ear 0 on the bracket E. 7c It will be seen from the drawings that the foregoing construction secures the results desired perfectly, and that the construction is compact, strong, and cheap.
Vhat I claim as new is- In a clothes-wringer, the combination, with the swinging clamp D and swinging apron C, of the bracket E, having thereon the ears d d and c, for hinging said clamp and "apron to said'bracket, relatively as shown. 8( In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MELVIN N. LOVELL.
