To all whom it may concern.-

- Be it known that I, AXEL WETTERVIK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ohicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Washstand and Table, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in combined wash-stands and tables, and it consists in certain peculiarities of the construction, novel arrangement, and operation of the various parts thereof, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and specifically claimed.

The objects of my invention are, first, to providea piece of furniture, which shall be simple and inexpensive in construction, yet attractive in appearance; and second, such a piece of furniture, which is so constructed that it will combine the elements constituting a wash-stand, such as the reservoir for the water, soap-dish, and mirror, and wash-basin with an ordinary stand or table, so that it can be used either as a table or wash-stand, as desired, and when in use as a table, conceals all of the other elements.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention pertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe it, referring to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1, is a plan view of my invention with a portion of the table-top broken away, in order to show theinterior mechanism. Fig. 2, is a longitudinal sectional View of the upper portion of the table or wash-stand, showing the table-top by dotted lines, turned so as to expose the upper surface of the wash-stand, and to raise the mirror. Fig. 3, is a cross sectional view, taken on line 3, 3, of Fig. 1; and Fig. 4:, is an enlarged detail View of a portion of the table or stand, showing the top thereof turned and the mirror raised so as to permit of access to the wash-basin.

Similar letters refer to like parts throughout the different views of the drawings.

A, represents the main frame of my stand, which is supported by suitable legs a, and which may be made of any suitable size, form, and material, but preferably rectangular, as shown in Fig. 1, of the drawings. Upon the upper surface of the frame A, rests the tabletop 1), which is pivotally secured near one corner of said frame, by means of a pin or pivot-point b, which allows the top to be turned to the position indicated by'dotted lines in Fig. 2, when the wash-basin will be exposed and access thereto be easily had. Within the frame A, which is hollow, as shown, is secured a vessel 0, which is made of proper size and form, usually rect-angular to fit within said frame, and is adapted to receive thewater after it has been used, and discharged from the wash-basin D, which is located above the vessel 0, and rests at its edges on suitable cleats or supports 0, secured to the inner surface of the main frame. As is clearly shown in Figs. 2, and 3, of the drawings, this basin is made of one piece of material, which not only forms a wash-basin, but also a cover D, for the water reservoir E, which is placed between the said cover D, and the vessel 0, and like the cover D, rests on the cleats or flanges c, ofthe main frame. The coveringD', is provided at a suitable place with an opening 01, through which the water to be used in the basin D, may be poured into the reservoir E, and in which fits and rests aremovable soapdish d, which forms a covering for said opening; the bottom of the basin D, is provided with an opening d which extends through the bottom of the reservoir E, and is designed to discharge the Water from the basin into the vessel 0, from which it can be removed through the outlet or faucet O, which is of the ordinary or any desired construction.

The wash-basin, is provided with plug or stopper e, having secured thereto a chain or cord 6, which is attached at its other end to a suitable ring or fastening 6 on the upper surface of the cover D, in which the basin is formed. basin, is formed a lug f, to which is fulcrumed, a lever F, which is provided at its lower end with an upturned elbow h, having thereon a stopper h, of rubber or other suitable material for opening and closing the opening 72?, through which water is admitted to the wash-basin from the reservoir. The

upper end of the lever F, is provided with a pin f, which passes through the piece D, and is provided on its upper end with a button or knob f for raising said end of the lever F, when water is desired in the basin, which lever will be restored to its normal position, by means of a spring f which encircles the pin f, and rests between the upper end of the lever and the lower surface of the cover.

In order to permit of the deflection of the lever F, the bottom of the vessel or reservoir E, is formed with a depression or recess 6 as' is clearly seen. in Fig. 2, of the drawings. The upper portion of the rear part of the frame A, is formed with a mortise A, in which is hingeda mirror G,whichis provided with an upturned portion or arm g, at its end adjacent to the mortise A, which is adapted to contact with the lug or projection g, on the lower surface of the table-top. This lug, when the table-top is turned so as to expose the wash-basin, passes through an opening 9 in one side of the main frame of the table and contacts with the arm g, which forces the same down and causes the mirror G, to rise and to assume the position indicated by dotted lines in Fig; 2, in which po sition it will be firmly held, so as to expose its reflecting surface, until the table-top is again turned to its normal position, as seen in Figs. 1, 2, and 8, and will be concealed together with the wash-basin, soap-dish, &c., by means of the table-top.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The combination of the main frame A,having the opening 9 in its side and the mortise A, with the cover 13, pivotally secured to said frame, and having the lug g, the mirror G, hinged to the frame A, and having the arm g, to engage the lug on the table-cover, the vessel 0, located in the frame to receive the waste-water, the reservoir E, having the depression e similarly located above said vessel, the cover D, for the reservoir, having formed therein the basin D, and the openings (Z ]L2, and d, for the admission and discharge of water, the spring-actuated-lever F, fulcrumed to the lower surface of the piece D, and having the knob f for raising the same, all constructed, arranged and operating substantially as described.
