HENRY B. COURCHENE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
TOILET-SEAT COVER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 2%. 11921.
Application filed April 29, 1920. Serial No. 377,432.
T 0 all whomit may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY B. CoURoHENE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet-Seat Covers; and I do hereby declare that thefollowing is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the numerals of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates more particularly to a toilet seat cover for closets.
It is the aim of my invention to provide the cover of a closet seat with a hole for the use of children, and to also provide a closure for said hole.
The novel structure whereby this is accomplished and the advantages flowing therefrom will be more specifically pointed out hereinafter.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top view of a closet seat and cover showing my invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Fig. 3 is'a bottom plan view of the cover.
Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1, showing a section of the cover only.
.As shown in the drawings:
Referring now more specifically to the drawings, 1 represents the cover for a closet seat 2 of a set bowl 2*. The cover 1 is provid'ed with a hole 3 of suitable contour and size for a child. The hole 3 is preferably put in the cover of existing toilet closets but if desired new covers might be provided. A closure 4 having a circumferential contour similar to that of the hole 3 is removably secured in said hole by a neat arrangement of supporting elements. These elements comprise an upper circular plate 5 secured to the closure by means of screws 6 and having a portion overlapping the seat as shown in Fig. 4, and a lower circular member 8 secured around the lower periphery of the hole by means of screws 9.
A latch 10 is secured upon the lower side of the closure 4, and the bolt 11 of this latch is adapted to be projected over the plate 8 to secure the closure in place. Diametrically opposite the latch 10, a clip 12 may be secured to the closure; a part of the clip overlapping the plate 8 to assist in more securely locking the closure in the-hole. It should be noted that the hole in the cover is much smaller than the hole in the seat 2, and that it is substantially concentric with said hole in the seat.
In order to use my device, it is only necessary to raise the lid or cover 1 and eject the bolt 11 and remove the closure, when by letting the cover down again it may be used by a child.
It will thus be seen that I have provided an ordinary toilet closet with means whereby it may be used by small children, thus dispensing with the extra appliances that are now commonly used.
I am aware that numerous details of construction may be varied through a wide range without departing from the principles of this invention, and I therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted otherwise than necessitated by the prior art.
I claim as my invention:
In combination, a toilet seat, a main cover hinged thereto, a hole in said cover, a supplemental cover fitting said hole, an annular plate secured to the upper side of said supplemental cover and extending beyond the edge thereof to afford a flange seating against the upper surface of the main cover, an annular plate secured to the lower surface of the main cover closely adjacent to the edge of the hole, an offset clip secured to the under face of the supplemental cover and overlying said last-named annular plate, a spring-pressed lat-ch secured to the under face of said supplemental cover diametrically opposite said clip, the spring-pressed member thereof overlying said last-named annular plate, and means accessible from the under face only of the cover for retracting the spring-pressed member of said latch. In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
