ATTACHMENT FOR CHININEYS.

SPECIFICATGN forming part of Letters Patent No. 515,574, dated February 27, 1894.

To ctl whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, Tnnononn ELLIOT GOLES, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at 'From-in the county of Miami and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Chimneys; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

The present invention has for its object to provide a cap or other like attachment to a chimney, whereby the top of the chimney will be protected from the weather and at the same time provide a base for the convenient attachment ot a suitableextension to increase its height and also the draft, which objects I attain bythe construction substantially as shown in the drawings and hereinafter described and claimed.

Figure 1 of the drawings represents a perspective view of the complete device, showing it in position upon the top of a chimney, the latter being shown in dotted lines. Fig. 2 represents a longitudinal central section thereof; Fig. 3 a top plan view of the cap ot the attachment partly broken away. Fig. 4 represents a perspective view of the device showing it in position upon the top of the chimney when used without the cap and without the sleeve attachment to the dome. Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional elevation taken on line a: of Fig. 4.

In the accompanying drawings O represents the base which fits upon the top of the chimney, as shown in Figs. t and 5, which base may be either square or rectangular, or of a shape to correspond with the top of the chimney. This base O has a downwardly projecting rim e to tit against the outer sides ot the chimney and turn the water away from it, said rim having suitably formed openings it to receive a'wire or strap for securely fastening it to the chimney.-

The dome B upon the base C provides a receptacle for the ascending smoke after it leaves the chimney and before it enters the extension above, and to give increased strength to the dome at its upper end Where it joins with the cylindrical extension D, a

brace Z is provided, so that the dome will better sustain the weight of the pipe which is to form the extension of the chimney. To provide for the convenient attachment of one or more lengths ot' pipe, the dome is provided with a cylindrical extension D, above referred to, which receives the end of the pipe. In order to provide for pipes of different sizes, a detachable section E may be provided, which section has a sleeve 'Il and ange or rim 7o, the former to receive the end of the pipe which is to form an extension to the chimney, and the latter to rest upon the upper edge of the extension D to form a tight joint between them. The dome may be used. without this detachable section, or sections having different size sleeves or collars may be used, so as to adapt them to pipes of different sizes, and any suitable means may be employed for connecting them together.

It desired a suitable cap A may be employed where the top of the chimney is larger than the base C, which cap has a downwardly projecting rim a to fit against the outer sides of the chimney, said rim having suitably formed openings b to receive a wire or strap for se curely fastening the cap to the chimney, and around the inner opening is an upwardly eX- tending ange c which has horizontally eX- tending bolt-plates d, as shown more clearly in Fig. 3.

When the dome B is used in connection with the cap A, the plates d and bolts f provide a very simple and convenient means for detachably connecting the base C of the dome to the cap A, in which case the rim e will lit over the iiange c, and it desired bolts g may be used as an additional means for connecting the cap A and the base C together.

what I claim as new, and desire to secure by lLetters Patent, is

of a dome having a, suitable base for securing 1t in place over a chimney or to a Cap connected to the chimney, and having at its upper end a cylindrical extension, and brace and a detachable section for adapting the devlce or attachment to pipes of different sizes, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
