TANK.
No. 567,666; Patented Sept. 15, 1896.
Nrrnn TATES ATENT OFFICE.
FRANKLIN G. TALLERDAY, OF MISHAWAKA, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR OF TWO- THIRDS TO JOHN W. ZIGLER AND W. ERNEST BORLEY, OF SAME PLACE.
TANK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 567,666, dated September 15, 1896. Application filed July 29, 1895. fierial No. 557,501- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RANKLIN G. TALLER- DAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mishawaka, in the county of St. Joseph and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tanks, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is the production of metal tanks of cheap and simple construction that can be shipped knocked down and afterward be readilyput together by unskilled persons and it consists of certain new and useful features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 is an end elevation of a tank, broken off at the top thereof, embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same broken vertically in two. detailed views of parts shown in Fig. 1.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
A are the sides of the tank, having their lower edges rolled into scrolls A. B is the bottom of the same, having its edges also rolled into scrolls B, the counterpart of and of proper diameter to be slid end Wise into the scrolls A of the tank sides A, so as to be concentric therewith.
C are the ends of the tank, and are provided with transverse, outwardlyrprojecting horizontal and lateral flanges O 0 Figs. 3 and 4: are
D are vertical outer stays having their lower ends bent around the concentric scrolls A B to strengthen and protect the same.
D are vertical inner stays, and D D horizontal upper and under stays.
The tank is shipped knocked down and is set up in the following ,manner: The scrolls B of the bottom B are slid-in practice driven-endwise into the scrolls A of the sides A. The flanged ends 0 are then slid into place, the stays D D D are put on, and the parts are next firmly secured together by means of bolts and nuts E E, passed through the stays and flanges. The joints of the tank may be made water-tight by means of cement applied thereto; or, if preferred, they may be soldered.
I claim-- In a tank, in combination, the sides A having their lower edge provided with scrolls A, the bottom B having the edges thereof provided with scrolls B corresponding with .and adapted to be slid 0r driven into the scrolls A of the sides, the ends 0 provided with transverse, outwardly-projecting horizontal and lateral flanges O and G the stays D, D,
D and D and means for securing all of the said parts together. substantially as and for the purpose specified.
FRANKLIN G. TALLERDAY.
