FLUE CONNECTION.
f specification ofreters Patent.
Patented` Jan. 2, 1917.
Application led May 9, 1914. Serial No. 837,548.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, DANIEL B. GAnLowar, a citizen of the United States, residing at Corydon, in the county of Henderson and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Flue Connection, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to flue connections for stoves.
An object of the present invention is to proiide a flue connection such that the stove pipe will not be required to make any short turns such as would interfere with the draft and cause an accumulation of soot within the pipe.
A further object is to provide a flue connection which communicates with the interior of a chimney or flue and with the aXis of the flue connection at an angle to the axis of the chimney which approximates a straight angle.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description p-roceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings accompanying this speciication and forming a part thereof, the preferred form of my invention has been illustrated, in which Figure l is a view in perspective of my improved flue connection, showing the same mounted upon a chimney and a portion of a stove to more clearly illustrate the manner in which the stove pipe communicates with the device. Fig. 2 is a vertical view in section, taken through the longitudinal axis of the flue connection and flue illustrated in Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a somewhat modiiedform.
Referring to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 3 represents a chimney of the usual type which is provided with the opening 4 therein, the said opening being of oval or elliptical contour approximating the line of intersection of a cylinder with a plane to which it is angularly disposed.
A stove 5 of the conventional type is illustrated and is provided with the vertically extending flue 6. My improved flue connection which is adapted to connect the flue 6 with the chimney 3, includes the flat chimney plate 7 which is provided with the opening S extending therethrough and extending through which opening is the p-ipe 9, the axis of which is disposed at a slight angle to the plane of the plate 7. In fact the angle approximates as closely as practical, a straight angle. The pipe 9 projects through and beyond the opening in the plate 7 and with its eXtreme end `bent back against the rear surface of the said plate and securely riveted or otherwise fastened thereto as illustrated in Fig. 2.
A somewhat modified form of the device illustrated in Fig. 3 discloses a construction in which the pipe 9 is formed integral with the flat chimney plate, thus obviating all joints in the device and insuring a rigid and tight construction. The angle of the pipe in the modified form is also inclined at a very slight angle to the vertical, thus allowing a short connecting flue 10 to be utilized to connect the vertical flue 6 with the pipe 9. This prevents the accumulation of soot as the line gases do notl make any sharp turns, the soot is maintained in suspension in the gas and carried away therewith. The opening 4 in the side wall of the chimney is of suflicient diameter so as not to interfere with the free ow of gases from the pipe 9 into the chimney.
The flat chimney plate -7 is provided with a plurality of apertures 11 extending therethrough, through which extend the securing nails 12, the latter being driven into the mortar 13 by means of which the bricks of the chimney are held together.
I-Iaving thus fully described my invention, what I claim is The combination with a chimney having an opening therein and a stove adjacent the chimney and below the opening, of a plate secured to the chimney and having an opening therein in communication with the opening` in the chimney, a pipe extending through the opening and having a flange end secured to the back face of the plate,
said pipe being inclined downwardly at an In testimony that I claim the foregoing acute angle relative to the plate and termias my own, I have hereto afIiXed my signanating above the lower end of the plate, ture in the presence of two witnesses.
and a stove pipe section extending from the DANIEL B. GALLOWAY. i stove and having an inclined upper end Witnesses:
projecting into the lower end of said pipe H. H. BRANDES,
on the plate. C. F. KING.
