IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-PIPES.

Specifica.tion forming part of Letters Patent N0. 185,849, dated J anuary 2, 1877; application filed October 24, 1876.

Be it known that I, GEORGE BUGHANAN, 0f Binghamton, in the county 0f Broome and State 0f New York, have invented a new mode of preventing the obstructiou of the draft of stoves by the contact of the end of the pipe With the wall 0f the chixnney; and 1 d0 hereby declare that the following is a full and exzwt description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

Tbis invention relates 130 t-hat dass of stoves which connect with'chimneys having narrow flues; and consists in perforatin g that section of the pipe that enters the chimney, in such a manner that it may extend against the opposite wall without obstructing the draft of the stove.

The object 0t' the invention is to obviate the liability 0f the obstruction of the draft, .and the consequent eseape of gas from the stove into the room, whieh, with the ordinary connections, often 0ccurs, particularly when the pipe has not been properly fitted, and the diffieulty not understood. 4

A is the joint which connects with the ehinnney, and has perforations a a from its bearing b in the side 0f the chimney to the end B,

which is sealloped, so that when in contact with the opposite wall of the flue it adjusts itself more readily to the usual inequalities 0f that surface. 'lhis, with the bearing b 011 the 0ther side, renders additional support 150 the pipe 0n the outside. The joint A has a shoulder, d, which bears around the hole 01 thimble, and an extension, e, for its connection with the pipe 0n the 0utside.

When the joint A is adjusted as hereinbefore described its position rexnztins the same, and the shaking 0t' tbe coui-grate und other disturbances 0f the pipe connecting With the stove have n0 efiect upon it.

'lhe perfomtions in the pipe are made 0f sufficient size to allow of the required draft 0f the stove.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim a.s new, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is- The pipe A, with the end B extending across the interior, and in contact with tbe tace 0f the 1ear wall 0t' the chimney, having holes a at different points in the pipe 130 allow 0t' the required draft, constructed and arranged as herein deseribed, f0r the purpose set forth.
