NITED STATES EMANUEL A. RICH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
MOISTENING DEVICE FOR ClGAR-BOXES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 512,122, dated January 2, 1894.
Original application tiled February 2, 1893, Serial No. 460.711. Divided and this application led October 23, 1393. Serial No.
488,856. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern.-
Beit known that I, EMANUEL A. RICH, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Moistening Devices for Cigar- Boxes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
This application is a division of my former application, Serial No. 460,711, tiled February 2, 1893, and the object of my present invention is to provide a means in the cigar box whereby a moistening device may be inserted into said box, and removed therefrom by means of a slot formed in one side of said box; said slot having a suitable cover to keep it normally closed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, wherein- Figure lis a perspective end viewof a portion ofthe cigar box showing a slot therein, and a cap therefor, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the receiver and moistening device.
A represents a cigar box, and B a receiver for the moistener C. The receiver Bis in the form of a pocket, one side thereof being perforated atits upper portion, and the back part formed solid over its entire surface, resembling in this respect the receiver shown in my former application before referred to. The moistening device C is also formed substantially the same as the corresponding device shown in my said former application.
In the presentinvention a slot e is formed at one side of the cigar box to admit the moistening device C into the receiver. The said receiver is open at the end corresponding with the slot in the box, and is closed at the 'other end, and the top and bottom.
For the purpose of strengthening the corner of the box Where the slot e is formed I provide a metal cap fhaving a slot corresponding to the slot e. This cap over-laps the corner of the box,and extends a suitable distance along the adjacent sides, its top and bottom edges being turned over and on to the top and bottom edges of the box sides, where it is tacked, or otherwise secured.
A ring g, or the equivalent, is secured at one end of the moistening device C, and serves as a handle by which the device may be removed from the receiver. A iiapz' is pivoted to the device above the slot e, and is adapted to extend over said slot sufficiently to prevent the moistening device from falling outthrough said slot.
The receiver B is made to serve the purpose of a trough by simply turning up the metal a suitable distance as seen at h, Fig. 2.
In removing the moistening device C, it is raised by means of the ring g until clear of' the turned up edge h, when it can be easily pulled out of the receiver.
Having now described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
Ina Inoisteningpdevice for cigar boxes the combination of a cigar box having a slot at one end thereof, a cover for said slot, a receiving device within the box, having perforations in its upper portion, one end of said receiver being open to correspond with the aforesaid slot, and a ledge formed at the lower portion of said opening, together with a removable moistener consisting of a strip of metal folded upon itself and having suitable absorbent material within the fold, and means for withdrawing said moistener from the receiver, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 19th day of September, 1893.
E. A. RICH.
