Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PRE$TON B. SOUTHWORTH, OF MARYSVILLE, CALIFORNIA.
BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 510,824, dated December 12, 1893.
Application filed May 25, 1893.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PRESTON B. SOUTH- WORTH, a citizen of the UnitedStates, and a resident of Marysville, in the county of Yuba and State of California, have invented certain new andnseful Improvements in Buckles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates generally to buckles,
' and particularly to animproved harness buckle, and is adapted for use upon traces, check reins, &c.
The object of the invention is 'to providea simple and inexpensive buckle, by means of. which a strap can be easily adjusted as 'desired. I have shown my buckle as'applied to the end of a trace, but it may be applied to other parts of the harness equally as well.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification: Figure 1, is a view showing it applied to the ,trace. Fig. 2, is a sectional View, and Fig. 8, is a perspective view of the buckle detached. g
I will now describe the buckle in detail. It is made of any suitable metal andis cast in one piece. In construction it comprises the Y shaped piece A, the end or cross bars B, connecting the ends of said side pieces, the
central bar 0, carrying a vertical tongue D,
and the lower cross bar E, which connects the lowerends of the side pieces. These side Serial No. 475,486- (No model.)
pieces maybe made in other shapes, but the same relative position of the cross and central bars is maintained.
In practice, a strap F, is passed between the center and bottom bar. It is then turned back, passed under one end bar, over the center bar, and under the opposite end bar, the
tongue engaging one of the holes in said and having an upwardly projecting stud, thesaid bar carrying the stud, being below the level of the cross bars connecting the ends of the-arms of the side pieces, substantially as described. v
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
PRESTON B. SOUTHWORTH- Witnesses:
S. E. INLOW, N. J. SLIGAR.
