PATENT FFICE.
MELANOTHON E. ZELLER., OF BLUFFTON, OHIO.
HARNESS- BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of v Letters Patent No. 738,650, dated September 8, 1903.
Appunti@ inea umh 4, 190e.`
Be it known that I, MELANCTHON E. ZEL- LER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bluton, in the county of Allen and State of Ohio, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness-Buckles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain improvements in harness -buckles generally, more particularly, however, to what may be termed Said invention has for its object, among other things, to dispense with the riveting or to simplify and to `facilitate the application of the same for use. l
The nature of the invention consists of the combination and arrangement of parts substantially as hereinafter more fully disclosed, and specifically pointed out by the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention, Figure l is a longitudinal section thereof.
loop portion thereof. Fig. 3 is a plan view with the parts extended.
Latitude is allowed herein as to details, as the same may be. changed as circumstances suggest without departing from thevspirit of my invention and the same remain in tact and be protected.
In carrying out my invention I provide a frame or loop 1, produced, preferably, with angular lateral bars la, an end bar l, and at the opposite end with a plate extension 1'c and intermediately of its ends with a second passing through said end cross-bar and plate. l
as to form a recess or bearing 2v in its outer surface to receive the tongue-bar of a buckle 3, as shown, said plate also having about centrally thereof an opening 2l for the passage of the buckle-tongue therethrough. Said one edge a stud or projection Ll., projecting laterally therefrom and having itself an eX- tension 4.a at right angles theretoadapted to Serial No. 146.18% (No model.)
`be passedV through an opening in a strap 5,
loop or frame, being held in place ready for useas desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is*
Said strap is also l. In a device of the character described, the combination of a frame having .an end plate, a buckle adapted to bear laterally upon said plate, and means connected up with said frame and buckle to form a loop, said plate having a downwardly-projecting stud effecting connection between said plate and said loo 21.) In a device of the character described, the combination of a frame having an intermediate cross-bar, an end plate or cross-piece, a buckle adapted to bear laterally upon said plate, and means connected up with said plate and buckle adapted to form a loop, said plate or cross-piece having a downwardly-projecting stud adapted to effect connection between said loop and frame.
3. In a device of the character described, the combination of a frame having an end cross-bar, an intermediate cross-bar, an end plate, a buckle adapted to bear laterally upon said plate, and a strap passing through said frame under said end cross-bar inwardly of said intermediate cross-bar, said plate having a downwardly-projecting stud adapted to effect connection between said strap and said frame.
4. In a device of the character described, the combination of a frame having an end plate provided at one edge with adownwardlyprojecting stud having an extension at right angles thereto, a buckle adapted toA bear laterally upon said plate, and a strap adapted IUU plate extension having a lateral stud at one edge, said stud having a right-angled extension and passing through said strap, said eX- tension laterally engaging said strap.
7. In a device of the character described, the combination of a frame having angular lateral bars, an endl bar, an intermediate cross-bar arranged laterally of a plane passing through said end bar, said frame also having an opposite endfplate extension, said plate extension having at one edge a downwardly-projecting stud provided with a for- Ward extension at right angles thereto, and a strap passing intermediately of said crossbars and end plate extension and adapted to receive said stud with its terminal or eXtension standing laterally of said strap.
8. In a device 0f the character described, a
p buckle-strap-carrying frame or loop, having an apertured end plate extension provided with a laterally-deflected end stud adapted to pass through the strap and laterally engage said strap, said plate forming a bearing for the buckle and its aperture receiving the buckletongue.
9. In a device of the character described, a buckle-strap-carrying frame having an apertured end plate extension provided with a laterally-detlected end stud adapted .to pass through the strap and laterally engage said strap, said end plate extension forming a bearingfor the buckle and its aperture receiving the buckle-tongue, said frame also having an end cross-bar and an intermediate cross-bar arranged in a plane laterally of said cross-bar and end plate extension.
10. In a device of the character described, a buckle-strap-carrying frame having an apertured laterally-bent end plate extension pro' vided with a right-angled stud adapted to pass through the strap and laterally engage said strap, said plate adapted to form a bearf ing for the buckle and its aperture adapted to receive the buckle-tongue..
11. In a device of the character'described, a strap-carrying frame having a laterally-bent end plate extension provided with an aperture and a right-angled stud adapted to pass through the strap and laterally engage said strap, and a buckle, said plate extension forrning a bearing for said buckle, and said aperture adapted to receive the tongue of said buckle, said frame also having an end crossbar and an intermediate cross-bar arranged in a plane laterally of said end cross-bar and said end plate extension.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MELANcTHoN E. ZELLER.
