Beit known that I, JOHN G. MoNAB'B, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sonora, in the county of Tuolumne and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buckles, of which the following is a specification.

This invention comprises novel improvements in buckles for connecting straps.

A buckle comprising the invention is particularly designed for application for check reins but is susceptible of use in various ways to secure strap parts together.

For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result, reference is to be had to the followingdescription and accompanying drawings, in which:

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

Specifically describing the invention, the numerals 1 and 2 indicate strap parts. The frame 3 of the buckle is of somewhat rec tangular form as in the ordinary types of devices of this class and is composed of end sections 3 of somewhat U-form, the sides of the sections 3 being adapted when inoperable position, to assume alined positions to thereby form the sides of the frame 3. Each section 3' of the frame 3 curves in its length and each side of each section 3 is provided at its free extremity with a hook 4 formed therewith. The several hooks 4 of the sections 3 of the frame 3 are provided withsuitable mouths leading thereto and said hooks, when the sections of the frame are connected together, occupy positions abutting with one another at the adjacent sides. Each hook 4 further has an abutting shoulder 5- at is upper portion to limit the movement of the sections 3 of the frame 3 in one direction. Said tongue 7 is adapted to pass through a selected one of openings in the length of said strap 1 and the cross bar 6' is connected with the strap 2, an end of the latterbeing folded about the cross bar and suitably secured thereto. The cross bar 6 forms the connector between the sections 3 of the frame 3 of the buckle, opposite ends of the cross bar being formed with heads 8 adjacent to which are provided annular reduced portions 9. The hooks 4 of the sides of the sections of the frame 3 are adapted to engage ready detachment of the strap 2 from thestrap 1. When the cross bar 6 is detached from the hooks 4, it will be noted that the connection between the sections 3 of the frame 3 is removed so that said sections may be separated if necessary, or may be bodily removed from the strap 1. r

In the practical use of the invention to assemble the parts, it is only necessary that the frame 3 be disposed over the strap 1, the sections 3 thereof having previously been so adjusted as to extend at an obtuse angle relative to one another so that the mouths of the hooks 4 are in transverse alinement. The cross bar 6 may then be forced upwardly into the mouths of the hooks and the tongue 7 passed. through an opening in the strap 1. By forcing the sections 3 of the frame-3 upwardly, until the mouths of the hooks 4 are out of alinement, said hooks will be caused to I engage with the end portions of the cross bar 6 in such a way that said. cross bar cannot be displaced or accidentally disengaged from the frame 3, the straps 1 and 2 being thereby connected in such a way as to ermit of free adjustment and ready detac ment when ever desired.

The construction of the buckle is very simple and the operation thereof may be performed with ease and ina very convenient manner.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. In a buckle, the combination of a frame aforesaid, and a tongue extending from said bar.

2. A buckle comprising end sections of approximately U-form, each section having the free extremities of its sides formed with integral hooks, the mouths of which are adapted to be transversely alined, a tongue carrying bar engageable by the hooks of the sections of the frame, and a tongue extending from said bar.

3. A buckle comprising end sections of approximately U-form, each section having the free extremities of its sides formed with integral hooks, the mouths of which are adapted to be transversely alined, means for limiting the relative movement of the sections of the frame, a tongue carrying bar engageable at opposite ends by the hooks of the sections of ltahe frame, and a tongue extending from said 4. A buckle comprising end sections of a proximately U-form, each section having t e free extremities of its sides formed with integral hooks, the mouths of which are adapted to be transversely alined, the hooks of the sections of the frame being formed with abutting shoulders to limit the relative movement of such sections, a tongue carrying bar having its opposite ends reducedand engageable by the hooks of the sections whereby said sections are connected together, and a tongue extending from said bar intermediate of its ends.
