UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
FRANK CHER-IE DUMAS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CUFF.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 503,762, dated August 22, 1893.
Application filed March 7, 1893.
To @ZZ whom it may concern,.-
Beit known that I, FRANK CHEEIE DUMAS, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, county of New York, State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cuffs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a reversible cuff, adapted to be worn with a stud cu button while taking the shape of a cud fastened with link buttons.
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate my invention: Figure l is a face view of a cuff showing my improvement. Fig. 2 is a front view of the cuff in use attached to the wrist-band and with but a single cuff button inserted. Fig. 3 is a plan showing the method of interlocking the cu-blanks in cutting or stamping out the material.
A is the body of the cuff which is reversible.
B B are the button holes near one end and adapted to receive a stud or cuff button.
C C are tabs shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 as of the same ply and integral with the body of the cuff, having button holes D D', which register with the button holes B B of the cuff body. The length of these tabs is such that when the cuff is fastened by a stud cuff button as shown in Fig. 2, the edges of the cuff body A will not overlap, and the cuff will consequently take the oval shape with separated edges of a cuff fastened with link but- In addition to this I am able to fasten the cuff to the wrist-band by means of the remaining tab C and preserve the corresponding button hole B smooth and in condition for reversing the cuff which cannot be done to retain a neat appearance in the usual link Serial No. 465,033. (No model.)
button cuff, for the reason that both button holes are exposed on reversing the cuff.
i In order to economize the material out of which the cuff blanks are cut or stamped, when producing the tabs of the same ply and produced from the cuff body, I mark them on the material with the tabs interlocking as shown in Fig. 3, the width of each tab blank being one-fifth of the width of the cuff blank and being placed at the same distance from each edge. This I Iind a convenient disposition which allows of the interlocking of the tab blanks of opposite cuif blanks with the greatest economy of the material, the only loss being of the small section marked a; for every two cuffs. I thus providea cuff of beautiful appearance, reversible and presenting with the use of a single stud cuff button the effect of a link cuff attachment.
I-Iaving thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A reversible cuff having two tabs of the same ply as and produced with the cuff body and located on one of the meeting edges of the cuff near the top and bottom of the same and provided with button holes to register with button holes located in the cuff body within the corresponding meeting edge of the same, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANK CHERIE DUMAS.
