Description
NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE..
ANTON WAGNER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
STEREOSCOPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 502,450, dated August 1, 1893.
Application filed January 12, 1893. Serial No. 458,099. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTON WAGNER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stereoscopes, which improvement is fully set forth in the following speci- Iication and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of a stereoscope having a plate with lenses therein, and a picture holder formed of extensible parts, as hereinafter described, and adapted to be folded against said plate.
It also consists of a catch on said plate for engaging the side portions of said picture holder, as hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure l represents a perspective view of a Stereoscope in folded condition embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a view of the same in operative condition.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two figures.
Referring to the drawings:-A designates a plate formed of any suitable material and having lenses B secured thereto.
C designates a holder formed of the extensible parts D and E connected by suitable eyes, the part E having a limb F which is mounted by means of eyes G, upon the plate A, said limb acting as a shoulder which abuts against the plate when the holder is in operative position, and sustains the same as shown in Fig. 2. On the outer end of the part D is a clamp H for supporting a picture or other object thereon, as shown in dotted lines Fig. 2. In the present case, the holder C is formed of wire, and the clamp H formed by bending the wire into coils of such shape that a picture, duc., may be inserted between the bends and readily held by the same.
Mounted on the plate A, below the axis of the holder, is a lock or catch J for said holder, the same consisting of a bar or rod which is mounted in eyes K secured to the plate A, one end of said rod being bent forming a crank L, and the other end having a hook M thereon.
The operation is as follows, when the parts A and the holder retained in extended and operative position, as shown in Fig. 2. Vhen the lock is properly drawn back, it is disengaged from the limb F, and may then be turned and folded against the plate A. The part D of the holder is then pushed in, so as to fold upon the part E, and the holder is then folded against the plate A, all as will be seen in Fig. l. In this position of parts the stereoscope may be readily carried in the pocket or stored away, packed, transported. tbc.
Having thus described my invention, what. I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. A stereoscope consisting of a plate having lenses therein, a picture holder formed of extensible parts connected by suitable eyes, one of said parts having a limb mounted in eyes on the said plate, and the other part having at its outer end a picture clamp, and a locking bar for said holder secured to said frame, said parts being combined substantially as described.
2. A stereoscope having a plate with lenses, a picture holder secured to and adapted to be folded against said plate, and a catch journaled in eyes on said plate and having ends adapted to contact with the side portions of said holder, said parts being combined substantially as described.
3. In a stereoscope, a lock for the picture holder thereof consisting of a rod journaled in eyes on the plate of said stereoscope, and having a hook on one end and a crank on the other, substantially as described.
' ANTON WAGNER.
