UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWIN STANLEY HOARE, OF FOREST HILL, ENGLAND.
TEST-TU BE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 500,206, dated June 27, 1893.
Application filed January 81, 1893. Serial No. 460,342. (No model.)
To all whom it may cmwern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN STANLEY HOARE, a citizen of Great Britain, residing at Forest Hill, in the countyof Kent, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Test-Tubes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertaius to make and use the same.
This invention relates to test-tubes; and it consists in the novel construction of the same as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a side view of the test-tube. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the same. Figs. 3 and 4 are crosssections taken on the lines 00 a; and y g in Figs. 1 and 2, respectively.
A is the body of the test-tube, which is provided with a hemispherical bottom a, and a lip a at its top, in the usual manner.
B is a bulb formed in the test-tube at any convenient distance between the bottom and This bulb is approximately spherical in form, and its largest diameter is preferably about twice that of the tube. It may most conveniently be formed at about one third of the whole length of the tube from the top. This bulb prevents liquid heated in the tube from boiling over, and it permits the tube to be laid down upon a flat surface Without spilling its contents, when the tube has only its usual charge of liquid. The bulb also permits the tube to be hung in a rack, either in an upright or in an inverted position.
What I claim is 1. A test-tube provided with ahemispherical bottom, a lip around its top, and a projecting bulb between the bottom and thetop of the tube, substantially as set forth.
2. A test-tube provided with a hemispherical bottom, a lip around its top, and an approximately spherical bulb arranged at substantially one-third of the length of the tube from its top, and projectingaround the tube, substantially as shown.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDWIN STANLEY HOARE.
Witnesses: I
GEO. J. B. FRANKLIN, W. J. NoRwooD, Both of IVo. 17 Gracechurh Street, London.
