Description

June 9, 1925 i H. :FRATERNALI FOOT WARMER original F'i1ed Feb. 27, 1922 l n., al ATTORN EY Patented June 9,
HENRY FRATERNALI, OF DOBBS FERRY, NEW YORK.
FOOT WARMER.
Application filed February 27, 1922, Serial No. 539,705.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, HENRY FmvriinNALr, a citizen of Italy, residing at Dobbs Ferry. in the county of lVestchester and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improven'ients in Foot IVarmers, of which the following` is a speciication. y
This invention relates tofoot warniers, and the principal object is to produce a device of this nature which shall be so constructed as to give off the heat of its contents slowly thereby remaining warm for a comparatively long time, thus particularly adapting itself to use in hospitals, automobiles. etc.
lVith these and other objects in View, which will be more apparent as the specification proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel construction, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully Vdescribed, are particularly pointed out in the appended claim, and are illustrated in thc accsnnlninying drawing, in which:
liigure l is a side elevation, 'partly iu section, ol.' my improved foot Warmer in the iiicitcrred 'torni tor use in hospitals.
F injure 2 is a. vertical sectional. 'view ot the sau-ie on line 2r-2 of Figure l.
Figure il is a view similar to Figure l lult ol the preferred form for use in automobiles.
Figure l is an end in Figure l.
Like characters of reference indicate like parts in all views. i
'view of the form shown Referring' to the drawing' in detail, the` reference character l() represents a receptacle made of terra-cotta and formed with legs ll and handles or ears 12. A. neck 153 is preferably counter-sunk in the top, and is provided cxteriorly with a screw thread to receive a metal 'ap lfle. There is provided a cork or rubber gasket l5, and as the suction caused by the cooling' of the liquid would tend to maintain the gasket on its seat, I provide a wire or cord 1G provided Renewed September 3U, 1924.
with a linger-piece 17 exteriorly of the de? vice and with a button 18 interiorly, so that the gasket may be readily removed with the cap. A cover or cozy 19 may be placed over the device to keep the heat in.
IVhile, as I have above said, the device is made of terra-cotta, it is also coated both inside and outside with enamel so as to give a polished, highly glazed finish. This ilinish prevents or at least greatly retards the rapid vescape of heat from the vessel. It is to be understood that hot water is used with the device, and that when the warmer is filled, it is first thoroughly washed inside and out with lhot water so that the terra-cotta body -is thoroughly warmed. The form shown in Figures 'l and 2 is particularly constructed and designed for use in hospitals, While that shown in Figli-.res 8 and 4 will be found more adapted for use in automobiles and the like. Y
llVhile I have described what I deem to be the most desirable cml'iodiment of my iuvention, it is obvious that many of the details muy be varied without in any way (lc-- partingr from the spirit of my invention, and I therefore do not limit myself to the exact details of construction herein set forth nor to anything'A less than the whole of my invention. limited only bythe appended claim. i
lil/'hat is claimed as new `is As a new article of n'ianuitacture, a foot warn'ier coniprisingl a terra-cotta body enameled inside and outside, a counter-sunk neck, a rubber stopper adapted to expand against the walls of the neck by virtue of the heat in said body for closing' said neck,
.n'ieans for holding,l said stopper in position,
said means comprising a cap for screw threaded engagement with said neck and a, pull cord securedto said stopper and cx* tondino; through said cap.
In testimony whereof I have affixed signature.
HENRY rnnfrniniara. Y
