H. T.BUSH. SUPPORT FOR WATER CLOSET SEATS.
No. 497,230. Patented May 9 1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
I-IIRAM T. BUSH, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO THE IDEAL MANU- FACTURING COMPANY, OF MICHIGAN.
SUPPORT FOR WATER-CLOSET SEATS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 497,230, dated May 9, 1893.
Application filed October 29, 1892. Serial No. 450,348. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, I-IIRAM T. BUSH, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Supports for Water-Closet Seats, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists in an improved support for water closet seats, hereinafter fully described and claimed.
Figure 1 is a side elevation partly in section, and Fig. 2 is a plan view.
In sanitary plumbing of the present day an effort is made to avoid, as far as possible, all wood work about a closet, and the object of my invention is to reduce the wood work necessary to a minimum.
A represents a water closet bowl upon which rests a seat B and cover 0.
J represents a bar of metal to one end of which is pivoted a hinge leaf H adapted to be secured against the wall of a room. The other end of bar J is forked as shown at L K, Fig. 2, and the ends of the fork L K are provided with a hole for a pintle E.
I represents a bar similar to J, except that it is not forked, which is provided at one end with a hinge leaf G, also adapted to be scoured to the wall of a room, and the other end is adapted to engage pintle E, so that the two bars J and I together form a hinge which may be secured to a wall, and whose flexibility permits the pintle line E to be moved in or out from said wall by raising or lowering the hinge leaves H and G, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, the 'whole structure II J I G thus forming an adjustable bracket.
For the purpose of securing the seat B, or both said seat and cover 0 to said adjustable bracket, I provide one or two hinge leaves D pivoted on pintle Eand adapted to be secured to seat B, and when a cover C is to be used, I also provide a curved hinge leaf F, also pivoted on pintle E, which reaches over the top of cover 0 and is secured thereto. By this arrangement there is no wood work whatever about the closet except the seat and cover, and the distance of these from the wall may be adjusted to suit different localities.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In combination with the seat of a water closet an adjustable bracket composed of a forked arm J, carrying at one end a hinge leaf H, an arm I carrying at one end a hinge leaf G, apintle E connecting said arms J and I, and a hinge leaf D pivoted on said pintle, substantially as shown and described.
2. In combination with the seat and cover of a water closet, the arms J and I carrying at one end thereof the hinge leaves H and G, pintle E connecting said arms J and. I, and the hinge leaves B and F pivoted on said pintle E, substantially as shown and described.
