have invented certain new and nsefnl Improvements in Oigar and (Zigarette Holder-s; and we do hereby deolare the following to be a fnll, clear, and exaot deseription of the inro vention, such a.s Will enable others skilled in the art so whioh it appertains to make and use tl1e same, referenee being had to the aeeompanying drawings,and to letters of referenoe marked thereon, whiol1 form a part of r 5 tl1is speoifioation.

This invention relates to improvements in eiger and oiga-rette holders and the objeot of Ehe invention is to provide a holder capalole of holding oigars and oigarettes of all sizes a.nd of relea.sing the ren1ains or stnmps after smoking without the neoessity of soiling the fingers or using sorne foreign devioe for this purpose. \Ve attain this objeet by the mechanisrn illustrated in the aooompanying draw- 2 5 ings in whioh Fignres 1 and 2 represent longitudinal seetions of the holder in ohe olosed and open positions of the orifioe. In order to introduoe a oigar or oigarette o1 to dislodge a. burned down stnmp, the tu be a is pushed for- Ward (Fig. 2) whereby tl1e disk c eompels all the rode d to move outside, and so to expand the orifiee of the holder. An india-rubber shell or oasingi oovering tl1e. rods d prevenus air penetrating from the outside.

For the better preservation and aspeet of the holder another shell or oasing overthat of india-rubber, of anysnitable materialn1a.y be adapted. Old cigar o1 oigarefte holders can in a suiteble way be provided witl1 tl1is device.

\Vhat we olain1 is:

1. In a eigen or cigarette holder, the oombination of e series of movable parts whioh colleotively form the orifioe to reoeive the artiole held, With an elastio band for forcing these parts together and means for separating them and allowing draft througjh the device substantially es set forth.

2. In a oigar or oigarette holder, the eom bination of a series of mova.ble rods having wings whieh colleotively forn1 the orifice to reoeive 1;he artiole held, with an elastio band for forcing these parts together, a notohed disk for engaging and holding the said rods, a tobe provicled with e cone for foroing 'ohe seid rods apart and Ehe necossary easings substantially es sei; forth.

3. In a oigar or oigarette holder a series of pivoted rods provided witl1 onrved wings an elastio easing inolosing the san1e, a. mein tnbe supporting seid casing and rods and another tube mounted in seid mein tnbe and provided 80 With a. grooved disk whioh engeges said rods snlostantially es sei; forth.
