NECK TIE OR BAND.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 482,547, dated September 13, 1892.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES S. COLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neck Ties or Bands; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention has for its object to provide simple and inexpensive means applicable to all classes of neckties and the neckbands of scarfs, which will actto prevent the tie or band from slipping up 011 the collar, will permit of the band or tie being shifted, if necessary, will wholly do away with metallic hooks and their attendant discomforts, and which shall not add to any appreciable extent to the cost of manufacture. This result of a simple, cheap, and effective means for preventing neck ties or bands from sliding up on collars, I accomplish substantially in the manner which I will now describe, and then point out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is an elevation of a scarf, illustrating the application thereto of my novel invention; Fig. 2, asimilar view of a necktie; and Fig. 3 is a section, on an enlarged scale, of one of the rubber holding-pads when made corrugated.

My invention consists in providing the inner face of the band or tie with soft-rubber holding-pads.

1 denotes the band or tie, and 2 denotes the holding-pads,which in practice are made quite thin and are cemented or otherwise firmly secured to the inner side of the tie or band. The shape and size of these holding-pads are not of the essence of my invention. I have shown them in the drawings as made round, although any other form would do as well. I have also shown them as made approximately the Width of the band or tie. This, however, is not necessary, as I find that smaller ones will in practice hold the band or tie firmly. In practice I ordinarily make the holding-pads quite thin and smooth upon the inner side, although corrugated holding-pads may be used, if preferred. The number of pads used, furthermore, is not of the essence of my invention. In the drawings I have shown four, which is the number I preferably use, two at the back of the neck (one on either side of the collar-button) and two at the front on opposite sides of the front collar-button, so as to prevent the tie or scarf from slipping at the front. lhe two holding-pads at the back are shown by full lines and the two at the front are shown by dotted lines in both figures.

Having thus described my invention, I claim- A scarf or tie provided on its inner side at intervals with soft-rubber pads which in use will come in contact with the collar and. prevent said scarf or tie from slipping.
