SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 479,519, dated July 26, 1892. Application filed January 25, 1892. Serial No. 419,119. (No model.)

A represents the wick-tube, B the wick, and

D the ratchet, adapted to actuate said wick B through a suitable aperture in the tube A,

the metal ot the wick-tube at the aperture being turned outward to form longitudinal flanges or sides of an outer box or casing for the ratchet, as shown in Fig.2. Directly over the ratchet-teeth d of the wick-ratchet and the aperture in the tube A is placed a cap E, which is hinged to the wick-tube, as shown in the drawings, and adapted when closed to overlap and bear against said flanges on the wick-tube. The hinge may be at either side 0 or end of the cap E. This cap E is also provided with a lug 6, adapted to engage with a spring-catch e on the wick-tube A for holding the cap closed.

By my invention, should the teeth of the wick-ratchet D become disengaged from or entangled in the meshes of the wick, the cap E may be swung back and the ratchet-teeth and wick exposed for the purpose of correcting and removing the difficulty.

Having described my invention, what I claim is- The combination, with a fiat wick-tube A, provided with a side opening, of a wick-ratchet D,-projecting through said opening, and ahollow cap E, pivoted to the wick-tube, and a catch 6 6 all said parts being arranged so that said cap when closed will contact with the wick-tube and house the projecting parts of the ratchet, substantially as described, and for the purposes set forth.
