P.. G. PAGETT.
. PLOW. No. 475,604.
Patented May 24, 1892.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEECE.
PHILIP O. PAGETT, OF WILMINGTON, OHIO.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 475,604, dated May 24, 1892.
Application filed January 2, 1892. Serial No.416.8'74. (No model.)
To all whom, imay concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIP O. PAGETT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Wilmington, in the county of Clinton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, refer'- ence being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in plows, the object being to provide an improved construction of same whereby superior advantages are obtained with respect to simplicity and economy in construction and efiiciency in operation.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
l In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a plow constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section of the same. Figs. 3, 4, and 5 are detail views.
In the said drawings, the reference-numeral l designates an ordinary plow-beam having a hole or aperture 2 intermediate its ends, through which passes a headed holt 3, secured in place by a-nut 4. This bolt passes through a slot 5 in the transverse head 6 of a standard 7, to the lower end of which the plowshare is secured. There is a space 8 between the head 6 and the top of the standard to receivehead 9 of the bolt 3.
At its rear end the beam is provided with a hole or aperture through which passes a bolt 10, having a head l2, which passes through a slot 13 in a plate 14, which is secured to a socket or flanged seat- 15, with which the handles 16 are connected. This bolt is held in place by a nut 17, by loosening which and the nut 4 of the bolt 3 the beam can be shifted laterally. By shifting to the right moreland is given to the plow, while by shifting to the left the land is lessened.
The numeral 18 designates a clevis provided with a series of apertures on its upper and lower arms which are adapted to register" wit-h a similar series of holes in the front end of the beam, being secured in place by means of bolts or pins 19. It will thus be seen that the clevis is adjustable, which has the elfect of shortening or lengthening the beam, where by the line of draft is more readily determined than by adjustingthe train connected with the draft-animals.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- In a plow, the combination, with the plowbeam and the standard having a transverselyextended and slotted head, ofthe handle-plate having a socket or anged seat for the handles and a laterally-slotted seat for the plowbeam, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
PHILIP C. PAGETT, IVitnesses:
MEAD R. PAGETT, ALFRED C. PYLE.
