IMPROVEMENT IN PLOW-POINTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183,907, dated October 31, 1876; application filed February 16, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, W. H. GooK, of Meridian, in the county of Lauderdale, and in the State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow-Points; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, ref'- erence being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of a hollowpointed plowshare with movable point, as will be hereinafter more particularly described.
In the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, Figure l represents a perspective of the upper side, and Fig. 2 a perspective of the under side, of the share; and Fig. 3, a longitudinal section.
In the figures, A represents a plowshare, which is cast in the usual form and manner, except that the point is not cast on, and that it is cast with alongitudinal opening in the direction ofthe draft of the plow. lhe share is thicke ned on its under side on the line of the opening through it, as seen at d, and a supporting-rib, a, is also cast up the under side for strengthening it. B represents a metal bar, which passes into the opening in the share, the forward end of which acts as a point for the plow. This bar is provided back of its center with a series of holes, through one or more of which it is bolted to the share. When its point Wears with the bevel upward it is turned over, and when the point wears off or back toward the share it is moved forward as far as desired, and again bolted through one of the series of holes. This bar B may be made either of cast or wrought iron, or of steel.
I do not broadly claim an adjustable plowpoint, as I am aware such is not new.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the share A, having an opening or pocket cast on its under side, thickcned, as shown at d, and braced, as shown at a, with the adjustable perforated point B, connected by the bolt e, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
