Description

W. A. JENNINGS. PLOW. No. 173,014. Patented Feb. 1,j18 76.
WITNESSES IJv' V'EJVTOR v vittorney y;
N- PETERS. FHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON Dv C.
WILLIAM AQJENNINGS, or NEVADA, KENTUCKY.
ITE STAT S IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 73,014, dated February 1, 1876; application filed November 5, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, WILLIAM A. JENNINGS, of Nevada, in the county of Mercer and in the State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and
' to the letters of reference marked thereon,
making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a combination-plow, as will be hereinafter morefully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my improved plow. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the share or plow point and lower end of plowfoot. Fig. 3 is a cross-section through the line as m, Fig. 2. Figs. 4, 5, and 6 are per spective views of various blades used with my plow.
A represents the plow-beam of any suitable dimensions, having the rear end curved downward and forward, to form the foot or leg. B. To the lower end of the foot or leg B are welded the land-side bar 0 and point D. 'The point D is formed on its upper side with a rearward-extending lip, a, curved slightly, as shown, and on the top of the barU is acurved or oval rib, b, extending from under the lip a. rearward for a suitable distance. 011 the plowfoot and point, thus constructed, may be secured a bull-tongue, E, or a shovel, G, or a bolt, h, is then passed through the upper part of the shovel, and through the foot B and a nut, 27, screwed on the end of the bolt to fasten the shovel firmly in its place.
The advantages of this-plow are, that it may be made strong enough for breaking up ground,
attaching right or left wing, without being-too I heavy for a cultivating-plow for one horse; and when thus used there is but the one screwtap'and bolt to remove to release the wing and put on either of the others, thus saving expense, time, and labor in having to keep as many separate plows as are needed on a small farm for the different kinds of plowing necessary to be done. This plow, with all of its attachments, will cost no more than one breakup turning plow with single wing. The, shape of the plow secures a steady firmmoveinent, and runs considerably lighter than ordinary plows of thesame weight.
Further merits consist in the firm fastening what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The plow-beam A, curved standard B, and the bar 0, extended to the rear of the curved standard, and provided with the point D, pro- In testimony that I claim the foregoing have hereunto set my hand this 18th day of October, 1875.
WILLIAM A. JENNINGS. Witnesses: Y

Having thus fully described my invention, I
