To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM T. Donn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gates, in the county of Lauderdale and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and useful glow, of which the following is a specifica- My invention relates to improvements in plows; and it consists in certain novel features, hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved plow. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view. Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on the line through the plowstandard.

The plow beam A is of the usual construction, and the standard B is formed integral with the beam and depends from the rear end of the same. The handles 0 are pivotally secured at their lower ends to the standard, and are held in a proper position by the braces D, which have their front ends pivote'd to the beams and their rear ends adj ustably secured to the handle. The handle can thus be raised or lowered, so as to suit the height of the driver. On the side of the beam at a point in advance of the braces I secure a band- E, through which the colter F or lateral shoulder G, so that it will be brought into the plane of the beam, and thereby made to run in the center of the furrow. The colter is held in the band by means of awedge G, which is inserted downward through the band between one end of the same and the. edge of the colter, so as to clamp the colter in the band. The colter is provided in'its outer side with avertical longitudinal series of notches or recesses H, which are engaged by the end of a set-screw I, mounted in the band, so that the colter can be adjusted to a greater or to a less depth and will be securely held at any point to which it may be adjusted. The colter is thus supported by the set=screw I, and when it is desired to adjust the angle of said colter a differently'shaped wedge G can be substituted without removing the colter and destroying the vertical height thereof which recent trials may have proven to be most desirable.

The blade or shovel J is secured to the front side of the standard at the lower end of the same and is given a rather sharp bend, so that it is caused to run under the surface of the ground, and thereby turn up the earth more thoroughly than if it were vertical and its point rested on or dug into the ground.

This peculiar formation of the shovel also reduces the draft of the plow, as the shovel can be more easily drawn through the earth.

To the rear side of the standard, at the lower end of the same, I secure, the outwardlyprojecting wing or covering-plate K, which extends to one side of the shovel and is adapted to throw the loose earth turned up by the shovel onto the plants. This coveringplate K is slightly twisted near the standard, so that its front surface is inclined downward and rearward to more effectually throw the dirt onto the plants. This covering-plate is secured to the standard by a bolt inserted through the standard and the end of the plate and a nut mounted on the end of the bolt and adapted to be turned up against the plate. plate will be securely held to the standard and at the same time may be adjusted so as to deflect the dirt'more or less directly onto the plants, as will be readily understood.

In practice the plow is drawn over the ground in the usual manner'and will turn up the earth and throw the same over onto the plants.
