Description

O. O. WILDER.
Plow.
No. 217,759. Patented July 22,1879.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES O. WILDER, OF MONMOUTH, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO THE J. I. CASE PLOW COMPANY, OF RAOINE, WISOON SIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 217,759, dated July 22, 1879; application filed November 22, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GHARLEs O. WILDER, of Monmouth, in the county of Warren and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of my invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a plow embodying my invention, partly broken away to show the construction. Fig. 2 is a bottom view.
This invention relates to improvements in the construction of plows of that class known generally as wrought-iron or steel plows, and the invention consists in improvements in the construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, and set forth in the claim hereto annexed.
Referring to the drawings by letters, the same letter indicating the same part in the different views, letter A represents the moldboard, B the share, and O the land-side bar, of an' ordinary steel plow. D is a brace-bar, having a horizontal part, (1, vertical end d, and inclined end (1, and is bolted to the share and mold-board at e 6, respectively, and to the land-side bar at e. F is the plow-beam, to which is attached handles G G.
The beam F is flattened at its lower end at f, and fitted to the under side of the share and mold-board, where it crosses the joint between them, and is secured by bolts f to the share and f to the mold-board, as shown at Fig. 2 of the drawings. The beam F is also secured by bolts f to the brace-bar D, and from the bar D curves upward and rearward entirely clear of the mold-board, and thence forward, as shown at Fig. 1 of the drawings.
H is a brace, extending from the side edge of the mold-board to the top edge of the landside bar.
The attachment of the beam to the moldboard and share, as herein described, forms a complete support for those parts without other support at their forward ends, and the further attachment of the beam to the brace D renders the attachment of the beam to the plow sufficiently secure and rigid.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The plow-beam F, having a lower flattened end, f, bolted to the share and mold-board, for the purpose of holding the share in place, and also bolted to the brace D, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES o. WILDER.
