UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
FRANZ NITSCHMANN, OF FLATONIA, TEXAS.
lM PROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 204,361, dated May 28, 1878 application filed March 30, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANZ N I'ISCHMANN, of Flatonia, in the county of Fayette and State of Texas, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Plows and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a side view of my plow. Fig. 2 is a bottomplan view, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view, of a portion thereof.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a plow, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention.
A represents the land-side, formed with the point B and share 0 either in one piece or separate, and fastened together. From the outer side of the share 0 extends a curved flange or bar, D, rearward and upward, as shown, and this bar is provided with a rod, a, which projects toward and is riveted or otherwise permanently secured to the land-side A. Previous to fastening this rod to the land-side it is cut with exterior screw-threads, and aunt, b, placed thereon. On this rod a next to the land-side is placed the hook of a hooked rod, d, and the nut b is then run up against it to fasten the same. This rod d passes upward through an eye, 0, formed upon an arm, A, of the land-side, and then passes up through the plow-beam F, a thumb-nut, f, being screwed on the upper end of said rod. Another rod, h, is fastened by a bolt to the land-side A in rear of the rod a, and this rod h also passes upward through the plow-beam F, and a nut, t, is screwed on said rod against the under side of the beam. By these means the beam F can be adjusted up and down on the rods d and h, so as to regulate the depth of the plowmg.
At the rear end of the plow-beam, in a recess in the outer side, is placed the handle G, and the lower end of said handle is fastened by a bolt to the heel of the land-side. The handle G is fastened to the beam by a rod, m, which is curved upward and outward, as shown, and then passes through the other handle, G, and thumb-nuts n n are placed on said rod, one on each side of the handle. The lower end of this handle G is fastened by one or more bolts to the upper end of the flange or bar D.
By means of the rod m and the thumb-nuts n n the handles can be adjusted so as to regulate the width of the furrow or cut.
H represents the mold-board of the plow. This mold-board is at its lower edge provided with two projecting lips, pp, and a pin, 8. The lips 17 19 extend under the upper edge of the share, while the pin 8 projects into'a hole on the flange or bar D at or near the lower end.
On the back of the mold-board, at or near the upper end, is a lug or ear, t, to which is pivoted the forked end of a lever, I. This lever is bent, substantially as shown, and passes through an eye in a post, J, on the handlelG', and its upper end is held in a ratchet-bar, L, also secured to said handle.
It will be seen that the mold-board is adjustable at any angle with relation to the share, and thus adapts the plow to any kind of soil.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. In combination with a plow and plowbeam, the rods 61 and h, connected directly to the land-side of the plow, and passed upward through the beam, and provided, respectively, with the thumbnut h and nut iabove and below the beam, as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The combination, with the share 0 and perforated bar D, of the mold-board H, pro vided with the lips 17 and pin 8, and a lever or handle for adjusting the mold-board, substantially as herein set forth.
3. The combination of the movable moldboard H, lever I, perforated post J, and ratchet-bar L, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
FRANZ NITSCHMANN.
