IMPROVEMENT IN CULTIVATORS Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 145,038, dated November 25, 1873; application filed June 28, 1873.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, BURREL W. WINGO,

of Chillicothe, in the county of Livingston and State of Missouri, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Flows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a side view of my plow. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail view.

This invention relates to plows and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the parts secured to the beam, in the manner as will be hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates the plow-beam. B B are the plowstandards, pivoted thereto by thebolts it. These standards are about double the usual length, and extend some distance above the beam A.

.Their upper ends are perforated at different heights, as indicated at b b, for the passage of the adjusting-pin c. D represents the braceplates. These plates are nearly semi-elliptical in form, the long axes of the ellipses raking to the rear, a little less than the rake of the standards, as usually arranged. The plates are made of considerable breadth at the part d, which is provided with a series of perforations, 6 e, for the passage of the adjusting-pin c. As this pin must beof considerable size for the required strength, nice adjustments are made by means of adjusting-holes arranged at diiferent heights and in such an alternate manner that the lower hole or holes will come opposite the space or spaces between the holes of the upper series. which are bolted to the beam A, and usually pivot-bolts a of each standard by connecting the same with the forward bolt h of the elliptic plate of the same side. These brace-plates, being comparatively of little thickness, are readily applied under the heads or nuts of ordinary screw-bolts toa plow of common construction, the standards being properly length ened; Their weight is but little, and, because of their thinness, vertical arrangement, and rearward rake, they do not interfere with the observation of his work by the plowman walk ing in rear.

I disclaim the devices shown in the patent granted to T. 1. Fish, dated May 1, 1873.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The plow herein described, having the adjustable standards B B pivoted one on each side of the beam A, and the bent brace O secured at one end to the standard B and at the other end to the semi-elliptical plate D,' ai1d plow beam A, as and for the purpose specified.
