L. A. BRINGIER.
GULTIVATOB.
Patentd Feb. 12, 1884.
N, PETERS. Phnlwlilhcgmph rods, as at g 9.
UNITED ,STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Louis A. BRINGIER, or DONALDSONVILLE, LOUISIANA.
CULT lVATO R.
SPECIFICATION ,forming part of' Letters Patent No. 293,221, dated February 12, 1884.
Application filed October 20, 1881. (No model.) 7
To all whom itmay concern.-
Be it known that I, LOUIS A. BRINGIER, a resident of Donaldsonville, parish of Ascension, and State of Louisiana, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Cultivators; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and correct description of thesame, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making apart of this specification.
My invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and specifically claimed.
My invention will be more readily understood by referring to the accompanying drawings, on which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the machine.- Fig. 2 is a plan or top View thereof, and Fig. 3 a front view of one of the yoke-standards and revolving disks.
The frame is composed of different-sized arches A B, the lower ends of which are adjustably connected with the side pieces, 0 D, by means of stirrups, as shown at 6, so that the distance between the said pieces may be increased or diminished to suit the width of row over which the machine operates. To stiffen the frame, braces are applied between the arches and side pieces, as at f, and the upper portions of the arches are connected by i To the under sides of the pieces 0 D are secured, by means of screw-nuts h, a number of yoke-standards, z, the lower ends of which are provided with revolving disks K, for cutting into and turning up the soil, as well as for pulverizing the same.
Owing to diverging of the side pieces, the disks are drawn in different but yet parallel lines, thus insuring the pulverization of the earth and the throwing of the same in the desired direction. To the upper part of the rear arch, B, is pivoted, in any desired manner, the rear end of a tongue or beam, H, the forward portion of which passes through and operates in a slot, Z, that is formed in the upper part of the front arch, A, so as to prevent the forward disks of the machine from being drawn out of the soil, or from being buried too deep therein.
The machine is drawn forward by attaching the draft-animal to the hooks m m, or to a clevis (not necessarily shown in the drawings) on the forward end of the beam or tongue. The latter means is preferred, inasmuch as it insures a deeper working of the forward disks, leaving those in the rear to pulverize the soil turned up thereby, and to throw the same in the desired direction.
The machine is guided by a single handle, 0, which is secured to one of the side pieces by means of stirrupsp q, or by any other desired fastenings. i
I am aware that in the construction of cultivators the employment of revolving disks mounted in pivoted frames is not new, and
also that'cultivators have been constructed with adj ust-able side beams carrying cultivator-teeth, and hence do not claim either of the said features, independent of their combination and arrangement with other parts.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent; is-
A cultivator composed of side pieces, 0 D, provided with yoke-standards i and revolving disks K, the said side pieces adjustably secured by stirrups e to the arches A B, as described, and the machine provided with a beam, H, and having strengthening-rods g g, bracesf, and a guide-handle, O, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name.
L. A. BRINGIER.
In presence of N. B. TRIST, A. DEMAREsr.
