UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALONZO NEWBURY, .OF OOXSAOKIE, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO EMMA A. I
NEWBURY, OF SAME PLACE.
PIPE-HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 472,068, dated April 5, 1892. Application tiled July 24, 1891. Serial No. 400,611. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALONZO NEWBURY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Coxsackie, in the county of Greene and State of New York, haveinvented a new and useful Pipe-Han ger, ot' which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to stoves and furnaces, and more especially to the hangers used in connection therewith for supporting pipes which convey a heated iuid, such as steam, although the invention is applicable for4 use in supporting any kind of pipes or other articles, and the object of the same is to produce improvements in'devices of this character.
To this endthe invention consists in the speciiic details of construction hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and as illustrated on the sheetof drawings, wherein- Figure l is a side elevation of this improved hanger. Fig. 2 is a perspective view with the parts thereof separated.
Referring to the said drawings, the letter B designates the body of this hanger, which is of n shape, having at its lower ends feet F, projecting inwardly, and above these feet at the centers of their widths rise webs W.
R is the removable member, which is preferably slightly depressed at its center, as shown, whose length is such that it may be passed transversely into the body above the webs WV and where the sides of the body are vertical, as at V, and whose ends E are provided with notches N, adapted to embrace the webs.
A bolt or screw S passes upwardly through the centerI of the body B, and is adapted to support the device in a manner which will be clear. Y
In use the body is arranged at the proper point and supported by the screw, the pipe is moved upwardly through the open lower end of the body, and the removable member'R is then pressed against the lower side of the pipe alongside the body B and slipped along on the pipe until its ends E pass laterally above the feet F, so that its notches N come over the webs WV. The sustaining force is then removed, when the weight of the parts will cause the memberR to drop into position, its notches engaging the webs and its ends each side .of their notches bearing on the feet F.
The entire device is preferably of iron casting, and it may be ornamented in any suitable manner. Its construction is cheap, its operation is simple, and its service durable and advantageous.
What is claimed as new is- A pipe-hanger comprising an inverted-U- shaped body provided at its lower ends with vertical portions and with inwardly-extendin g feet and having integral Webs rising from the feet and extending along a part of the vertical portion, a supporting-screw, and a removable member having a depressed curved body and provided with horizontally-extending recessed ends to engage the webs, the removable member being greater in length than the distance between the webs and of a size to enter between the vertical portions at a point above the Webs, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses. v
ALONZO NEWBURY. Witnesses:
