IMPROVED SOFA BED AND CRIB.

Y Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 46,879. dated March 21, 1865.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SOLOMON GHAPIN, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sofa-Beds; and I do hereby declare that the following isa full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in Which- Figure l represents a sofa with a frame turned up in front to serve as a crib for a child. Fig. 2 represents the end View of a sofa bed with the en'd removed and the draw drawn out, as used for a sofa-bed.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the drawings.

My improvement relates to the class of sofabeds which are adapted to be used foraloun ge and bed, also for a crib for a child.

To enable others skilled in the art to fully understand and construct my invention, I will proceed to describe it.

A, Fig. l, represents the frame or body of the sofa. B is a draw, with a frame top, C, attached to the front edge of the top of the draw by means of hinges, so that it may be turned up, as shown in Fig. l, to serve for a crib for a child.` When not in use for a childs crib, it may be turned down on top of draw B, as shown in Fig. 2, to serve as a bed-bottoni when the draw is drawn out. F is a cushion, fastened to seat I. To the front edge, at G, is another cushion7 E, put together at the edge, at G so as to form an even surface when turned over on form C for the purpose of serving for a bed. rIhe cushion F is designed to remain at all times on frame I, and it need not be Vtrimmed or upholstered only on the front edge. Cushion E, when not in use, as shown in Fig. 2, may be turned over on top of cushion F, for the purpose of use for a crib or lounge, and need not be upholstered only on the top and front edge, at G. Draw B has dovetail guides H H--one on each end--serving to guide the draw, and also to tie the frame A together.

Draw B has sufficient space under frame O to contain bed-clothing when not in use, and placed underneath frame I to serve the purpose of a sofa or lounge.

Having thus described Iny invention, what I cla-im, and desire to secure by Letters Patent., Is-` The combination of the several parts, as described, for the purposes set forth.
