Description

E. COVERT.
ROPE CLAMP;
(No Model.)
No. 466,656. Patented Jan. 5, 1892.
wi/tmooa'o UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ENOCH COVERT, OF FARMER VILLAGE, NEW YORK.
ROPE-CLAM P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 466,656, dated January 5, 1892.
Application filed September 2, 1891. Serial No. 404,538. (No model.)
1'0 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ENOCH COVERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Farmer Village, in the county of Seneca and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rope -Olamps, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a cattle-tie provided with my improved clamp; Fig. 2, a transverse sectional View of the clamp attached to a rope, and Fig. 3 a detail View of one of the clamp-sections.
This invention relates to adjustable ropeclamps particularly for use in that class of cattle and horse ties wherein a rope is provided with a snap-hook at one end, which is adapted to engage a loop or eye on the ropeclamp; and it consists of certain novel features of construction hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, a designates the rope having a snap-hook b, of the ordinary construction, attached to one end, and c the improved adjustable clamp, to which the snap-hook is connected when it it desired to form a loop in the rope. This adjustable clamp consists of a pair of sections (2 0', formed semi-cylindrical to embrace the rope, one of these sections being provided with a sharp spur d, which enters the rope and prevents the clamp slipping. At one side the adjoining edges of the clampsections are provided with flanges c c, which lie close together and through which a screw 0 is passed to secure the sections together upon the rope. On the other side one of the clamping-plates is provided with an integral laterally-proj ecting plate 0 which is provided with a hole in its outer end for the attachment of the snap-hook. The other plate (the lower one in Fig. 2) is also provided with a flange, which lies closely against the flange of the other plate and is reduced in width to form a tongue 1,", which latter is slightly bent and passed through an opening 0 in the adjacent flange of the other plate and rests upon its outer face, as shown most clearly in Fig. 2, thus forming a loose-joint hinge connection. By removing the screw 0 the parts of the clamps may be readily separated and clamped upon any desired part of the rope.
This device is extremely simple and inexpensive andis notonly useful in cattle-ties,but also capable of use in a number of positions where strong reliable clamps are required.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is The combination of a rope a, provided with a snap-hook b on one end and an adjustable clamp c at a suitable point in its length, said clamp consisting of a pair of semi-cylindrical sections adapted to embrace a rope and having an inwardly-projecting pointed spur to enter the same, said plates being removably secured together by a screw on one side of the rope and provided with abutting flanges or plates on the other side, one of these latter plates being reduced in width and. formed into abent tongue 0, adapted to pass through and interlock in an opening in the adjacent plate, this latter plate being extended to form an eye for the attachment of the snap-hook, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signatu re in presence of two witnesses.
ENOCII COVERT.
Witnesses- FRED L. RAPPLEYE, D. 0. WHEELER.
