To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMPSON HARRELL, a citizen of the United States,residing at Whigham, in the county of Decatur and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hame Tug-Hooks; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in hame tug-hooks; and it consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter shown and described.
The object of theinvention isto provide a simple, durable, and comparatively inexpensive device of this character which may be securely fastened to the hame without weakening the same. I
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of a hame, showing my improved tug-hook applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line- 2 2 in Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the bracket for connecting the hook to the hame.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 denotes a portion of a hame, and 2 denotes my improved tugbook, which is pivoted to a bracket 3, secured upon the hame. The bracket 3 is, as shown, formed from a single piece of sheet metal by cutting and bending the same to form at its ends spaced loops or eyes 4:, at one side an attaching-flange 5, and at its opposite sides tongues 6, which are adapted to be passed through openings 7, formed in the hame 1, and to have their ends 8 bent over in opposite directions, as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. The attaching-flange 5 is secured upon the outer face of the hame 2 by screws 9 or in any other suitable manner.
The tug-hook 2 is preferably formed, as shown in the drawings, from a single piece of heavy sheet metal and has at one of its ends an eye or loop 10 formed by bending said end upon itself, as shown. Said loop or eye 10 is disposed between the loops or eyes 4: of the bracket 3, and projecting through said eyes is a pivot 11,'here shown in the form of a screwbolt. The portion of the hook 2 which is engaged with the tug may be of any suitable form, and, as shown in the drawings, has a reduced neck formed by a projection 12, located at the free end of the hook.
The construction, use, and advantagesbf the invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings. It will be seen that by constructing the hook.2 and the bracket 3 in this manner and attaching the latter to the hame 1, as shown, a very strong and durable device is provided, which may be manufactured at a comparatively small cost.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.

The combination with a hame formed with apertures, of a tug-hook having an eye at one end, a bracket formed from a metal plate by cutting and bending the same to form at the ends of the bracket spaced eyes orloops adapted to receive the eye of said hook between them, at one side of said bracket an attachingflange adapted to be secured to said hame and at the other side of said bracket with projecting tongues adapted to be passed through the apertures in said hame and to have their ends bent over, and a pivot pin or bolt passed through the eyes in said plate and said hook, substantially as described.
