IMPROVEMENT IN BAG-TIES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 59,698, dated February 9, 1875; application filed December 14, 1874.

Be it known that I, JOHN O. MILNE, of Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and in the State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag- Ties; and do hereby declare that the followi-u g is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.

The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a bag-tie, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a perspective view, showing the tie applied to a bag; and Fig. 2 is a similar View of the tie.

A represents a cord or string of suitable thickness, fastened at one end to the tie B. This tie is made of a single piece of wire bent at one end to form the hook a, the end b of the wire being bent outward, as shown. From the other side of the hook or the wire is made to form a loop, d, in which the end of the string A is fastened, and from this loop extends the other end of the wire, forminga tongue, h, over the center of the hook, the

extreme end i of said hook being bent upward, as shown.

In applying this tie the end of the string A, after being passed around the bag, is passed into the hook to, under the tongue h, so as to get on the inner side thereof, after which the string is passed over the tongue and into the hook again, as shown. The tongue h presses the string down into the hook, thereby holding it firm, and the greater the strain of the string around the bag the tighter the tongue will hold the string.

The tie B may be made of any size desired, according to the purpose for which it may be intended to be used, such as, for instance, clothesline holders, rope halters, and other purposes.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The tie B, made of a single piece of wire bent to form the hoop a, loop (1, and tongue h extending over the hook, in combination with the cord A, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
