WILLIAM W. LUNGER, OF ANAMOSA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO JAY HEAOOGK, OF JONES COUNTY, IOWA.

IMPROVEMENT IN CLIPS FOR NECK-YOKES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 205, l 10, dated June 18, 1878; application filed May 25, 1878.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM W. LUNGER, of Anamosa, in the county of Jones and State of Iowa, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Clips for Neck-Yokes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

The nature of my invention relates to clips for neck-yokes; and it consists in the 0011- struction of a clip cast in one piece with a loop, and open at the front, with projecting lugs through which the fastening-rivets are passed, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention.

A represents the loop or eye, cast with the clip B in one piece. At the base of the loop the clip is of the same width as the loop, and then increases gradually in width, as shown. In the center of the clip is formed a V-shaped rib, b, which merges on each side in with the base of the loop, and then gradually increases in depth and width to a point .directly opposite the loop. At this point the clip is openthatis to say, it is slitor slotted longitudinallyand on each side of this slit or opening are formed projecting lugs a a, through which rivets are to be passed for securing the clip on the neck-yoke.

By this construction I obtain a close gripe on the wood, and by having the wood large enough to leave the clip a little open when first riveted it can be tightened after the wood. has shrunken, as it almost always will, by tightening the rivets. i

This device can be used both on neck-yokes and whiffletrees.

It does not need an extra ring, as the ring, beinghorizontal, will be in position to receive the clevis to fasten to whiffletree without an extra ring to change it from a perpendicular to a horizontal one.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The clip B, cast in one piece with the loop A, open longitudinally directly opposite the loop,

and provided with the rib b and lugs a, all

substantially as herein set forth.
