Description

UNITED STATES ATET HARVEY M. KELLY, OF IRVING, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN WHIFFLETREES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 151,032, dated May 19, 1b74; application filed March 14, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARVEY M. KELLY, of Irving, in the county of Montgomery and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Strap-Clip for Nhiitletrees, Neck-Yokes, 850., of which the following is a specification Figure l is a top view of my improved clip, shown as applied to a whiffletree. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same, taken through the line a; 00, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
A is a strong ring, band, or ferrule, fitting upon the end of the whiffletree or neck-yoke,
and which has an eye, B, formed upon the one side to receive the hook, link, or ring (J. Upon the forward and back sides of the ring A are formed straps, D, extending along and fitting upon the Whiftletree or neck-yoke. The straps D taper from the ring A to their ends, and upon their ends are formed inwardly-pro- 'ectin rows (1 which enter the wood and c p a 7 prevent the clip from being drawn off, while the said straps D are held close to the Whittietree or neck-yoke. E is a band or ring which is slipped upon the whiifletree or neck-yoke, and is designed to fit closely upon it near the ends of the straps D, and closely confine said straps in place. The band E is secured in place by a screw passing through it and into the whiffletree or neck-yoke, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The eye of the hook G is made open, and with its en ds tapering and overlapping each other. The ring A, eye B, and straps D are designed to be cast of malleable iron in one piece. The hook O is also designed to be cast of malleable iron, and the ends of its eye closed down upon each other after being inserted in the eye B.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The ring A, having eye B, and straps D d, to adapt it tovbe secured to a whiffletrce or neck-yoke by the band E, all combined as set forth.
HARVEY M. KELLY.
