CASE FOR HOLDING TICKETS.

To all whom i may concern:

Be it known that I, WARREN F. BECK, of Knoxville, in the county of Tioga and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Cases for Holding Tickets, Coupons, the., ot which the following is a specification.

My invention has reference to a case or cabinet intended more particularly for holding and preserving small coupons, tickets, the., without the necessity of perforating them; and it consists in peculiarly-constructed trays or drawers mounted in a case or cabinet and provided with automatically-operating and self-adjusting lids to bear upon and confine the contents of the tray. rlhe cabinet and trays may be varied in size and design at will; but for purposes of illustration I have selected a cabinet adapted for the use of retail merchants to hold the coupons removed from the pass-books of customers.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the cabinet with the upper tray or drawer open. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same on the line 2 2. Fig. 3 is a vertical cross-section through one of the closed trays.

Referring to the drawings, A represents a case or cabinet, which may be of any appropriate form or material, and B a series of trays or drawers arranged to slide horizontally and independently into and out of the openings in the case. Each tray is provided with a lid or iiap O,ot` sheet metal, wire-cloth, or like material, at the rear end with two horizontal pivots c, which project through vertical slots c in the side walls of the tray, so that the lid may not only turn upward and downward within the tray, but also rise and fall bodily to accommodate itself to the varying mass of tickets lying in the tray beneath it. From the lid of each tray at a point near the rear end a cord D is carried rearward and downward over a suitable guide and attached to a weight E o r to a spring, which tends constantly to draw the tray back into the cabinet. All the lids in the same tier of trays may be connected with the same weight. On the top of each lid there is an arched spring F, which when the tray is closed bears against the overlying part of the cabinet, as shown in Figs. 2

and 3, so as to press the lid down firmly on the contents of the tra-y. On the under side of the lid is a spring-arm G, intended to hold credit-slips or other papers, which are automatically confined and exposed by the closing and opening of the lid. This spring-arm has its rear end attached to the lid and has its opposite end free, so that when the lid is elevated the spring-arm extends from its point of attachment upward and outward, thereby leaving a space between it and the lid, into which space the credit-slips or other papers may be slipped and coniined, as plainly shown in the drawings. lVhen the tray is drawn forward from the cabinet, the weighted spring automatically turns the lid to an elevated position, so that, bearing against the front of the cabinet, it will hold the tray open, and at the same time uncover and expose the contents. A moderate pressure rearward against the trav or the turning down of the lid will be followed by the automatic closing of the tray.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. In combination with the cabinet and a sliding tray, a lid or cover connected to the tray by movable pivots, a spring to depress the lid when closed, and a weighted cord attached to the lid to close the tray.

2. The case or cabinet, a series of sliding trays, each having a hinged lid, a weight, and a cordconnecting the saine with the several lids, substantially as shown and described.

8. In combination with a case or cabinet, a sliding trayor drawer, a lid hinged to the tray, and a spring to press the lid down within the tray when the latter is closed.

I. In combination with the sliding tray, the hinged lid provided on the under side with the clip or spring G, secured thereto at its rear end and having its opposite end free, substantially as described.
