SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 281,062, dated July 10, 1883.

, a citizen of the United States, residing at Upper Sandusky, in the county of Wyandot and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in File and Bill Hold ers, and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being hadto the accompanying'drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention has relation to improvements in file-holding boxes; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates the outer case or main box, which 'is of elongated form, and is provided with the end cover, B, which is hinged to the top of the main box, as indicated at c.

D represents the inner sliding box or' holder, in which the letters or files to be put away for reference are placed. This interior box is formed with a sloping inner end, c, with which the inner ends of the files come in contact, so that their outer ends are caused to assume a sloping arrangement, which greatly facilitates the inspection thereof, rendering it hardly possible that one of the files could be overlooked in going over the series in the holder. The bottom or floor of this box is also provided at its forward end with a circular recess, a, by

means of which easy access may be had to the files when the said box is drawn out.

The hinged cover B of the outer case, A, is provided with side flanges, g, to which are pivoted the outer ends of the curved side arms, H, the inner ends of which are pivoted to the inner portions of the side walls, 76, of the inner box or holder, 1). The concave sides of these arms are toward the wall Z- of the outer box, to which the end cover, B, is hinged, and when the cover B is opened'the arms are drawn forward and outward with the cover, and the sliding holder D is'at the same time drawn forward and causedto project from the open end an of the outer box. In this position the cover B, having been thrown outward to the fullest extent, serves as a catch to support the slidebox in its projected position when the outer case is placed on end in upright position; or, if allowed to remain in horizontal position, the slide-holder serves to keep the cover in raised position, out of the way.

' Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

In a file-holder, the combination of the outer rectangular box, A, having the hinged end cover, B, with the inner slide-box, D, provided with the sloping inner end, 6, bottom having a front circular recess, a, and outer curved side walls, is, the curved arms H, and coverflanges, all adapted to operate substantially as and for the purposes specified.
