UNITED STATES ATENI @EEICE.
HEINRICH SCHNEIDER, OF OBERI-IAUSEN, GERMANY.
NOTE-PLATE FOR H EAD-COVERI NGS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 448,266, dated March 17, 1891.
I Application filed April 2, 1890. Serial No. 346,822. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HEINEIcII SCHNEIDER, of the town of Oberhausen, in the German Empire, have invented a certain new and Improved Note-Plate for Head-Coverings, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improved noteplate and covering for the head 5 and it consists of a light writing or note sheet or plate which is fixed in the roof of the said covering for the head, so that when the same is gently touched with the hand, or by removing the hat or the like from the peg, the plate will be automatically released, will flap down, and render the note or other matter inscribed on the plate visible. The object of allowing the note-plate to flap down is to compel the wearer of the hat to read the note or such like inscribed on the said plate.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a section of a hat with the note plate, slab, or sheet and the hook for holding the same in side view. Fig. 2 is a side view of the note sheet or plate B and the hook A partly in section. Fig. 3 is a view of the under side of the sheet or plate, and Fig. at is a side view of the hook.
ThehookA for holding the plate B is movably fixed to an angle of sheet metal 0, to which the spring F is fixed, as represented in Figs. 2 and at. In the one position in which the hook A is in engagement with the plate B the spring lies against the shoulder a, so that the hook A is pressed forward by the spring F pressing against the nose 1). Above the nose to the hook A, which receives the edge of the plate B, the body of the hook is made on an incline, so that when the plate B is pressed upward the hook will be moved to the rear until the said hook snaps into the sec ond position. (Shown by dotted lines in Fig. 2.) The plate B is now released from the hook A and can fall down around its hinge, as represented in Figs. 1 and 2. \Vhen the hat is hung on the hat-peg, the latter will press against the note-plate and release the same from its hook, so that when the wearer takes his or her hat from the hook his or her attention will be called to the note made on the table or sheet.
It will be evident from the foregoing that the form and also the method of attachment can be varied in many ways without dep rting from the nature of my said invention; and I also desire it to be understood that I do not confine myself to the application of my improved note plate or slab to hats, as the same can also be applied to caps, bonnets, and the like to the same advantage.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I- declare that what I claim is- A note sheet or plate B, attached to the roof of a hat or the like and being held by a movable hook A, which is operated on by a leafspring F, so as to retain the hook in two positions until a pressure exerted on the plate B releases the latter from the hook and allows the plate to fiap down by gravity, substantially as set fort-h in the foregoing specification, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HEINRICH SCHNEIDER.
