Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MAX AMS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CAP FOR MUSTARD-BOTTLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 476,771, dated June 14, 1892.
Application filed February 20, 1892. Serial No.422,185. (No model.)
To allwhom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, MAX AMs, of New York city, New York, have invented an Improved Cap for lWIustard-Bottles,of which the following; is a specification.
This invention relates to a cap for mustardbottles which can be readily attached and is firmly held in place. 7
It consists in the various features of improvement more fully pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a mustard-bottle provided with my improved cap; Fig. 2, a horizontal section on line as as, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a face view of the lid-blank, and Fig. 4 a rear View of the lid.
The letter a represents a flanged lid or cover adapted to fit over the mouth of a mustardbottle A. At the front the lid on is provided with the dewnwardly-depending spring-catch a. At the rear it is provided with two perforated lugs a These lugs are stamped out in the blank, Fig. 3, and are then bent downward and into parallelism, as shown in Figs. 1 and i. The neck m of the bottle A is surrounded beneath the bead m by an expansible spring-band b. This band is made preferably from a corrugated strip of sheet metal. The ends of the band are formed into lugs or eyes 17. These are slipped between the lugs a and the parts are then pivotally connected by pintle c. This pintle thus serves to close the band I) and also to pivotally connect the lid to the band. The cap is attached to the bottle by distending the band I) and slipping it around the neck m beneath the bead m. The parts will thus be secured in place in a simple and effective manner.
What I claim is The combination of a bottle with an elastic corrugated-metal band surrounding its neck and having disconnected ends, and with alid having a pair of downwardly-depending lugs between which the ends of the band enter and to which they are pivotally attached, substantially as specified.
MAX AMS.
