Description

(No Model.)
J. REILLE-Y. DEVICE FOR ULEANING GAS BURNBRS.
Patented Mar. 10,1891.
. UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN REILLEY, OF JERSEY CITY, NEIV JERSEY.
DEVICE FOR CLEANING GAS-BURNERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 447,905, dated March 10, 1891.
Application filed May 7, 1890.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN REILLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Devices for Cleaning Gas- Burners, of which the following is a specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings represents a side View of the needle. Fig. 2 is a side view of the cleaner, and Fig. 3 is an end view of the same.
My invention relates to a novel device for cleaning differentkinds of gas-tips, as shown in the accompanying drawings, in which letter B is the cleaner or blade. Withaback similar to the back of a saw. The blade is composed of thin sheet copper or brass, that will pass through the slot in the gas-burner, and the back is made of similar metal or of sheet-tin. In forming the back for the blade I also form a longitudinal opening in the back for the purpose of holding a fine needlepointed Wire. lVhen the blade is put in position in the back and made secure thereto, I form the longitudinal opening I) in the back for the wire bydies. The longitudinal opening is for the purpose of holding a wire small enough to clean a burner that has orifices, so that one burner can be cleaned with the blade, and if the next one has orifices I can pull the needle-pointed wire out of the back and clean that burner also. So with my improvement I can clean all kinds of gas-burners that are now in use.
Serial No. 350,951. (No model.)
LetterAshoWs the wire made needle-pointed, with an eye-shaped end to it, so that it can be held in the hand conveniently while cleaning the burner.
Letter C shows the burner with the blade in the slot, and also shows the needle-pointed wire-inserted in the back of blade B for the purpose explained. This needle fits snugly the opening in the back of the blade and near the corner thereof and adjacent to the eye a in said needle, and the eye serves the double purpose of a handle for the needle and for hanging up the blade on a wall when said needle or blade is not in use.
I am aware that prior to myinvention there have been several devices for cleaning gasburners, and all use the blade for the same purpose, for which I claim no right; but
What I do claim to be new anduseful, and Wish to secure by Letters Patent, is 7 As an article of manufacture, the withindescribed gas-tip cleaner, consisting of the flat blade B, having a rigid back provided with a longitudinal opening b, a needle A, adapted to engage this opening and provided With the eye a, formed integral therewith, said eye serving the double purpose of a handle and an eye for hanging the device to a nail, all as shown and described.
JOHN REILLEY.
